454TBI again

Well let me try this again, here is a picture of my 454TBI that I have been playing with for the last 2 days. I will use this on my sbc vortec 350 w/hotcam. Anyone have a set of 350 injectors to go with the tbi please email me. Looking to also get a rebuild kit for the TBI. The 305 engine will be removed from the Camaro this weekend and hopefully install the new engine the following weekend.

What year and type of vehicle did the 454 TBI come off of? That is going to decide what rebuild kit you need (FYI, most auto parts stores call it a "TBI tune up kit" instead of rebuild kit).

Go with the 80 something pph injectors. Youll want to have the extra fuel.

So 80 pph injectors is what I will need to feed the engine. I do not know what year the 454 TBI came from since I purchased the item off Ebay 7 months ago. What fuel pump should I go with?

You'll want around 100lb/hr injectors. This can be done with fuel pressure like I do or huge injectors with only a little more pressure.
As for the pump, get anything ment for a mpfi setup. Any mpfi v8 pump will work for 450+hp but if you want to install it and forget about fuel delivery issues just get a 190 or 255lph walbro pump. Do a search online, there is a guy that's been selling them to sy/ty guys for years now. The price was like $80 for the 190 and $90 for the 255. That kit he sells comes with everything needed.
TBI fuel pumps are pathetic. I think they might have made them dead head at such a low fuel pressure incase the return line got crushed or clogged. In anycase, replace that stock pump, it's junk.
As for the rebuild kit, I couldn't find one locally. I tried 3 stores, all said they didn't make them anymore. I was rather pissed to say the least. The only thing I could get out of the stores was a base gasket (lucky the only one I needed). Try a pepboys or an advanced autoparts store, the locals are starting to die out.

Well just cross reference the injectors that came off the 454 tbi, it is gm 5235231*rpd which is suppose to be the 90 lb. injector. Anyone know of a place/company that could rebuild/flow match my current injector?

Yup, I wish he would become one of this sites sponsors. I'm sure he doesn't need the extra buisness but he's offers awesome prices on those pumps.
Thanks guys for the rebuild kit numbers.

Thanks to JPrevost suggestion, I now have the 255 lph with kit in my garage. I tried to install it today but time ran out and the auto hobby shop was closing. Would try again tomorrow but they are closed for the holiday. STill lookin gfor a place that will rebuild the 90 lbs injectors that came with the 454 tbi.

He may need the extra business. The last time I talked to him a few months ago when I bought a Walbro 170 for my S-10 daily driver, he had just lost his job and was talking about selling his turbo Astro van. I offered to buy his GN, but he wouldn't part with it. You might aproach him on bieng a sponsor.

They are an 80.5 #/hr injector, DrkBlu/DrkRed. Linder Technical is the only place I know that handles TBI injectors (www.lindertech.com).

There isn't really much to rebuild on these TBI injectors. You can easily replace the screens in about 5 minutes and you can see the pintle that meters the fuel right at the tip. If it's not dirty than your injectors are good to go. The rebuild kit should have the screens with it. There are two different screens, the big ones that go on the tip and some really small ones that go in the side of the injector, I'm not sure what they do, but I think fuel flows through there to cool the injectors.

Just put the screens on there and make sure they both spray on the car.

I bought a cheap ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight Tools . I just throw the injectors in there with some carb cleaner and let it run for a while. This has never failed to revive a bad injector for me. HTH

How long do you let it run? The 80pph's that came off my 454 dont look too good, for $30 it'd be worth a try.

Thanks

A couple of hours is plenty. If that doesn't do it, I'd trash the injectors.

I'd try to rig up a test bench or something to fire the injectors at varied pulse widths while they're in the solution.
