Which ECM for modded motor?

I've got a 91 Caprice Wagon.... don't know what the broadcast code for the ECM is in it, but which ECM is best for modded motors? Does it make a difference?

I've seen 747 posted all over the place. And another one(don't remember it right now)....

If one is better, which vehicles should I be able to find it in?

well sorry i just gave you what i think should be in yours now, your ECM will be fine ,you just need to get a chip for whatever mods you do ,or get into tuning it yourself, but i'm kinda new to that.

Your nomenclature is a little off from what people are used to hearing around here. Most people refer to the computer as the ECM. The broadcast code refers to what particular file that is on the chip which is called a .bin The definition file that tells what ever chip editing software your using where things are in your bin is called the ecu or tdf file.

As for what ecm is best for a modded motor, it really doesn't matter as long as you can get an ecu or tdf file for it, so you can tune it. I suggest you check out tuner cat for software since they seem to have alot of the odd ball ecm's in the newer vehicles. The most popular TBI ecm's are the 747 and 746 whish is the last 3 digits in the ecm part number. Some guys are having better luck with the newer ecm's being that they use better more complicated code. Hopefully you were asking this question because you were planning on tuning your ecm, if your wanting to know which ecm is best untuned, you might as well just go to a carb.

Thanks.... I am going to be tuning my ECM when I get some mods done. I just need to make sure I have plenty of options. I do not want to get the heads/cam/intake/Modded TBI and T56 in and find out I can't get the ECM tuned.
