tuning

how accurate is monitoring o2 voltage at WOT for tuning. a scan tool is the only method of datalogging i have right now. Is this even remotly accurate or a waste of time?

It works good for tuning at part throttle if you drive long enough to get sufficient data. I would use a laptop, winaldl, and the easy to make cheap cable. WinAlDl puts the BLM data into a table that is really easy to transfer to the ECM tables. I have found that the easiest way to get good part throttle data is to drive at varying speeds on hilly roads as that gives the ECM the most chance to operate in all the table areas. The lower map areas under decel and coast, middle of the table for cruise, and high map for the uphills and accelerations. Do NOT go to WOT untill you have all the part throttle tables roughed in and fairly accurate.

I always do part throttle fuel, PE, the spark, finally redoing the part throttle again. Thats just how I find it easiest although I tune trucks and vans.

Waste of time IMO --
either get on a chassis dyno with a 4 gas analyzer, or invest in a WB02. The WB02 pays for itself after two or three trips to a dyno - and once you use one for tuning you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Another bonus of a WB02 is sample rates are around 60 samples/sec as opposed to the 1 every 1.2. You'll also be able to log MAP, TPS, RPM, etc.

My NB was reading .990 when in fact I was at 16 to 1 on the WB. Once you get just a little too far away from 14.7 the NB will do all kinds of stupid things. Some times it won't even flip over in the right direction like in my case. Luckily I didn't blow anything up.

well that sucks, i kinda thought the nb information would be useless. How much can a w/b be had for. they can be used on different vehicle right. it would be a lot easier for me to justify if i could use it on all of my vehicles. i am just trying to get my feet wet, i havent even started to try and tune yet. just kinda wanted to know how things are running right now.

I purchased the ZT-2 through a group buy for 250.00 IIRC.
Yes you can use the sensor on different cars -- remeber though that if you have a cat it must be placed before the cat. This usually means drilling and welding in a bung for each car you plan to use it on. If you don't have the cat you can use a setup like this :

before i had the wideband i got my ve tables in order first, commanded 12/1 in constants, went to dyno and their WB showed 12.1/1 and 11.9/1 at WOT. maybe dumb luck. BUT my AE pumpshot was ridiculously off the mark. the WB purchase i made showed me that day one. i went from a half *** tuner to one that could start to see improvement in state of tune with each reburn. my AE was at 8/1 and off the WB charts.
