TBI Buildup Questions

I'm sure this has been covered, but search results were pretty vauge.
I'm building a tbi 350 to replace the V-6 in my 92 4x4 pickup. It's a daily driver, and does tow duty when the Iroc and I venture to the strip.
I've built many engines over the years, but never to live in the confines of a stock TBI.I really need to stay basic, because I have no access to prom burning, etc.Hooking it to a scanner is no problem, nor is an aftermarket chip,Hypertech, etc.
I'll reuse the underdrive pulleys, etc from the 6,and have already installed single 3" exhaust,no cat with a 2 chamber flowmaster.
What I need is a little advice as far as what I should run for a camshaft,I don't need high end power, obviously, just something to bump up the low end tourque.
Also, the engine I pulled out of my donor has a cracked head,is there a better factory head to look for than the stock 350 TBI heads?I've been told the stock heads are great for low end, true or false?
Are TBI motors affected by increases in compression?Just figuring to go ahead and put flattops in,unless there's reason not to.

Lastly, one of the exhaust manifolds is busted at the flange.I know I can turn up another manifold cheap at the bone yard, should I just do that,or should I get the shorty headers for it?
I have no emmissions testing or any of that crap to deal with, just need a little help on what to run.

Sorry if these questions are dumbazz, figured you fellas could steer me right on this stuff.

Cast Iron 350 TPI 083s would be a no brainer if your 193s are cracked. The stock TBI 193s flow very similarly to a stock TPI head. The swirl vane does give the TBI heads a faster burn, more bottem speed torque, and better fuel mileage. Basically it can run better on a leaner mixture.

The stock TBI intake and TBI can support a pretty decent engine underneath them.

Since you have cracked exhaust manifolds it would be a great time to upgrade to headers. Stay clear of cheap headers. IIRC, Doug Thorley makes a Tri-Y for trucks that is smog legal. Would help alot in the mid-range torque of your truck.

As far a cam goes a Mellings MTC1 cam works very well in a near stock TBI truck.

Finally tuning will sweeten the deal as far as the engine goes.

If you have access to a laptop, It is almost cheaper to burn your own chips than have someone else do it.

Thanks for the help, man. Was afraid i'd get flamed for being unfamilier with the late model stuff.Too many years staring into a Holley,I guess
I know to you this is a stupid question, but what did 083s come on?Thinking maybe the original 350 from my car may have them.
I have no access to a laptop nor the knowledge to do anything with it if I did. Will stock tuning be ok,or do I need to get an aftermarket chip?If so,which one?I've been told street and performance in Mena,Ark. can burn killer chips, any truth to that?

Again, sorry for being so oldschool, but your help is truly appreciated.

Your TPI 350 should have come with the 083s from GM.

Stock tuning would probably run and get you to work and back, but I wouldn't count on it to get you down the road very fast.

Something I forgot to mention earlier, you will need the ECM, Injectors, Knock Sensor, and ESC module from a 350 truck though.

Howell and Turbocity are both good places to get a custom chip. IIRC, PCMforless programs TBI chips as well. I have not heard of S&P burning TBI chips but maybe they do. Alot of people like Brian at TBIchips.com.

When you are tuning/burning chips it is best to have the vehicle in front of you. It can be tricky to tune via mail.

Preferably Dougs Tri Y's. Wish my G20 had them instead of the cheap flowtech P#15000 long tube 4-1s that are on it. My brother has a set on his Tahoe and they fit much better, made more mid-range power, and gave him a better mileage increase than mine (mine was better to begin with though).

Thanks a bunch,fellas.
I'm left with 2 questions.
I've got the 083s,but they belong to the original 350 from my car,and as stupid as it may be,I kinda want to keep the original stuff to my car.
Would the TBI heads still make OK power with that cam,and the Doug Thorleys?
Is this a simple enough combo for a generic chip,or do I really need to take it to a burner?
And what about compression? Not looking to be stupid, but will flattops be ok with this combo?

Thanks So Much Again.

Oh,and thanks for the extra info, but I have a complete donor truck for the swap.
