New Fuel Pump?

New Fuel Pump?

I have a 92 305 tbi that has sat for 2 years and I just recently replaced the starter on. Well after i replaced the starter. It wouldnt start. It turns over but it doesn't fire. I pour same gas down the throttle body and it fire right up, but would stay running. When i turn the key on, i dont here the fuel pump kick on. I figured it was the fuel pump. I decided to disconnect the fuel line going to the Throttle body and turn the key to run position to see if any gas was coming up and there was a small trickle, that kind of stumped me. I dont know it has enough pressure or if the pump is shot all together. Any suggestions?

Disconnecting the fuel pump line to the TBI is not a good way to test the pressure. A fuel pressure tester will do that. However, if you have just a trickle of gas coming out after disconnecting it. If you have just 3-5 lbs pressure out of the line at the TBI and you do not put a hose over the end prior to cranking the motor, you will get soaked with gas. I know, I've done it. I got so much gas out at what was about 5 lbs, I did not think that anything was wrong with the FP. Of course, that was pre pressure test with a gauge. Based on the trickle and the fact that you do not hear it running, it sounds like it may be a bad FP or a clog in the line or insufficient power to the FP.

Sounds like a dead pump. I would suggest a TPI and or Walbro pump as a replacement. They are often cheaper than a stock replacement and will support more power down the road should you decide to switch a to multi port set-up.

Since the last thing you dide, was adjust electrical connections, you might just want to double, and tripple check your wiring. I would also try to hook up the fuel pumps hot line to 12v power, and see if the pump actual pumps that way or not.
