I am never gonna get this done anytime soon...

Ok, I just got my Jim Pace parts catalog in the mail with all the parts I need for that ZZ430 conversion for the ZZ5 package. (430hp,430tq) Came to 7000.00 total for the parts below listed, including pro-built tranny!!!!
ZZ5-3749.95
HOT CAM-179.81
1.6 rockers-280.26
Valve Cover w/ adapters-200.00
Starter-212.21
Carb parts-730.00
Trans w/ 3000 converter-1600.00

Is that good for 430hp and 430lbs of torque and a pro-built 700r4 with 3000 stall and transgo? Seems like a lot to me. Think I should maybe just go and find an L98 for cheap and rebuild the block with new heads and the works and the new 700r4? Input is needed. Never done this before.

if ya got the cash for the big set up i would go for it, we all need 400+hp in our lives. i would just wonder if you really need that big a convertor with a 700r4, they have a really deep first gear(3.06) so they usually don't need as big a convertor to get the car going.

This is the dyno chart. It has a pretty decent flat torque. I am not to sure on what stall. I thought a 3000 would be sufficent. What do u think would be good according to the dyno charts torque rate on the engine and the pro-built stage 3 700r4?

Did you look into cost to build yer own long block, rather than converting the ZZ5? Sometimes you can save cash doing it that way, except for whenever I do the whole theoretical dream engine build up's I always spend more 'cause I can't get the cheap rotating assembly parts (but, that's the fun of the whole theoretical build up's isn't it )...

that torque table is sssooooooo sweet!!!!!!! well over 300ft/lbs at 2k, and it carries off the other end of the sheet. what size and type of tire are you running? if you have a large (read as 26x9.5 or larger bias DOT or slick) i would run like a 2400-2600 rated convertor, if you have a smaller tire i would use like a 2000 stall just so the tires could at least try to grip before the bigest part of the power band starts to come on.
my recomendation is to use the slightly bigger convertor and shop for the tires to harness the beast.that would get the most out of it.
by the way, who is pro built and where can i find their stuff?

I know, I about fell in love with the engine when I seen the dyno chart too and its torque ratings.

Hehe, right now I am just running 265/50/R15's but I am upgrading to some black crosslace GTA rims 16x8 this spring and probably going to run 265's in the rear and 255's in the front. BFGoodrich T/A's or maybe Nitto's. Haven't really thought about the tires yet, focusing on the income for the rims first. Pro-built is a company I found that I have heard a lot of people talk about and say great things. http://www.pro-built.net u can find them there. They have different stage transmissions that are cabable of withstanding different hp/tq ratings. I want a stage 3 if I go with the ZZ430 conversion.

From 730.00 in carb parts, I mean like the carb is 414.00. Fuel line 45.00, Lockup kit is 65.00, fuel pump is 69.00,return line FPR is 75.00, motor mounts 33.00, comes to around 700.00 bucks (not really carb parts but parts in general) and 212.00 for the mini starter which makes it 913.00. Sorry for the confusion.

Youve got to love that combo.
Ive got a 335 going together with 10:2:1 pistons and a little work to the fastburns. ZZ430 with a kick!

I know nothing about the ZZ5 but i think the stock valve springs on the Fastburns is rated to .500. But like i said i dont know what kind of upgrades are on the ZZ5.

man eric that blows monkey balls. Seriously though if u really want a faster car dont go through a whole conversion sell it and but an LT1 powered 4th gen. If u dump all ur money into modding it its only gona cost u more in tha long run between resaler and price for modding. IMO

Yeah but I plan on keeping this car my whole life. I have to buy a beater car this winter. Something I can drive around college in the fall since my new apartment is kinda far to walk. I never drive the car up to college for mileage reasons. I want to try and keep the miles low as possible for right now. Higher miles means more problems that I don't need right now. So basically the car is a summer car since I only drive it when I come home from college. This is the first "hod rod" ever in the family and I kinda would like to keep it for centimental value for the future. Hell, all cars are money pits, so you should atleast have fun loosing ur money right?

Yeah its the same block as the ZZ4 block. They just call it the 385 fast burn because they use fast burn heads and it makes 385hp and 385lbs of torque. The rest of the info is in the link below.

hey 91bird, if you get 16x8 wheels you should check out the hoosier quick time pro's. they are a grooved slick, they drive good on the street, and hook like a mf'er when ya warm them up just a little, plus the fed put a DOT stamp of approval on them, and who am i to argue with them
