If this tells you anything, GM turned a 300 HP longblock into a 250 HP weakling by adding TPI to it.

Re: which would be faster?

If the TPI is in place and your just going to drive it as is, you might as well just leave the TPI in place for simplicities sake.

That crate engine 300 HP rating is GROSS horsepower. The 250 HP TPI rating is NET horsepower. You know that, right?
Werent the 350 TBI's about 220 HP?

rockit, this topic has been debated since before this website existed. Do a search on "tpi vs tbi" and you'll cry from all the dead horses being beaten.

That's overstating it.

The heads would have limited the output on a TPI long block. GM didn't even get to 300 fwhp until the Ycar LT1 and that was using a slightly higher lift cam and (LT1 / L31 style) heads that were much improved over TPI on both intake and exhaust.
