so i failed a referee inspection today, he said that my mat senor was in the wrong location, its in the hole in the air cleanerbox, like everyother tbi camro/firebird i've seen, he told me its supposed to be in a hole in the intake manifold on the top/rear of the motor? i told him he was wrong, and that was no provision for it on the manifold, he said i must have the wrong intake manifold then, its stock by the way, never been removed. WTF, he told me i need to get a diagram from gm that shows the sensor being in the air box
the 2006 Mitchel repair information sheet he printed out says that the location is \on top rear of engine. see figure 14 it doesnt say in air box or intake manifold
i dont see it in the manifold or even an actual picture on and iat/mat so how did he come up with it being installed in the intake manifold?

i know hes wrong you know hes wrong but how do i convince him hes wrong? he told me to get a gm diagram with a picture, or descripton showing it in the air box, where do i get a gm diagram?

He is a retard, just point out that the manifold has the original GM part number, is the stock GM casting for the vehicle, the air cleaner assembly is stock and has the stock IAT in it. The TBI engines all had the IAT in the air cleaner assembly and the stock ECM is calibrated for its presence there. The smog tech is a dodo who needs to go back to school.
The Caprice 5.0/5.7 has the same setup as a F-body. The TBI engine in a Caprice and a Camaro/Firebird are for all practical purposes the same. Follow the link below and print out the diagram.
thank guys, it seams like when ever i ask a ? u guys, bmonte/ fast always give good advice , much aprreciated.
i though it was kinda wierd too i mean the pivture/description he gave me never even said it was located in the manifold, if his software called it an iat, instaed of a mat he prob. wouldnt have even said anything
i looked at the diagram and i know that tbi's, iat are in the air box, but the guy told me i need to show him a gm authorized diagram for the 1988 camaro tbi,
the picture i sscanned up above was given to me by the referee, and to me it looks like the MAT is located between the air box and the intake manifold, if it was located in the manifold they would have had a picture of the manifold under the tbi to reference the true location.
the diagram he presented me is way to vague to determine the proper location
pointing out the gm casting # on the manifold should allow him to research it and see that theres no plumbing or spot to install the sensor anywhere on the manifold.

Go somewhere else I'd say. That guy is an idiot. TBI cars don't have a MAT. That picture he gave you really sucks. It is hard to distinguish anything in that picture, why is he so certain your OEM equipment is incorrect? What a jerk.
lmao go somewhere else, so true but so impossible, i wish it was that easy, the person that i speak of is a LOL a "state certifed referee" i can only see state certified referees for my corecctions from my ciatation or else i would have laughed in his face and smacked him silly
the only people that have a right to tell i'm wrong about something tbi related, are on this site, bmmonte, fast, shifty and a handfull of others, and only beacuse they know it better than me, do to more experince, not some guy thats saw his first tbi camaro today and according to a bad diagram thinks he right

Oh I see. I wasn't aware of that particular crazy rule in crazyfornia. Man, I tell ya...I could never live there if not for the CARB regulations alone! Everywhere I've lived, if you fail you try again. At the same place will be cheaper because if you go somewhere else you pay again. That blows.
yup, they really like to get you by the balls out here, they failed another part of the test because there was duct tape on a hose , not around it but a peace had gotten stuck on it awhile ago, and on the report it says no electrical tape, doesnt say any thing about duct tape, nazis i tell u
That's utterly rediculous that a state referee doesnt know where stuff is. I would bet some moron editted his book and now its wrong. I heard a story out here where a guy with an 89 Formula 350 with dual cats went to get his car smogged and the ref failed him for having dual cats, even though it was factory, because it wasnt in his book.
If you need any help, there are a few other TBI cars here in SoCal you can get pictures of. And we have a factory repair manual with diagrams if you need it.
THE FACTORY REPAIR MANUAL WITH DIAGRAM WOULD BE PERFECT, THE REFEREE TOLD ME TOO BRING IN A DIAGRAM ORREPAIR MANUAL SHOWING THE "MAT" LOCATED IN THE AIR BOX. I LOST MY HAYNES MANUAL, BUT I DONT THINK IT HAD ANY IAT LOCATION DIAGRAMS ANYWAY

Just print the one out from my Autozone link. It came from All Data, should be fine.
