Ok so Ive had my 88 Trans Am for almost a year now. Ive spent countless hours on here searching the TBI threads wondering what i can do to get the most out of my 305 TBI engine. Now for the most part ive read and had most of my biggest questions answered. So in the last few months ive became very lucky and come across some awsome deals dealing with performance upgrades for my car. So finally at last here is what ive purchased:
- Used Holley 670 CFM TBI Unit w/ Adjustable FPR paid $75
- 99' 350 Vortec heads paid $175 for the set
- Used EdelBrock TBI Vortec Intake Manifold paid $35
- Underdrive Aluminum Pulley Set
- Aluminum Driveshaft
I still need to install all of these mods but, I still would like to buy an LT1 camshaft and a few other mods such NOS and a set of 3.73's. My most recent question is after i install all of these mods, where can i send my computer out of my Firebird to have it flashed and re tuned? I dont have the time to sit and try and tune the car myself so id rather take the quicker route and pay someone to do it for me. Also after these mods, what do you guess my estimated HP rating will be? Thanks for looking all, I will post some pics up later

You should really get into tuning if you are planning all these mods. As I'm sure if you read the "come in here for a free tune" sticky. Monte and many others will say that mail order chips are crap. I at this point can't say much because my tuning skills are still in their infancy. It's like trying to do surgery over the phone, it just doesn't work. Also, I wouldn't use the 670 unless you plan on a bigger motor. The stocker is good for 300+ horsepower modded.
ALong with the mods you listed I'd throw in a 96+ 4.3 s10 converter for alittle more stall. IIRC they stall behind a healthy v8 around 2100-2300 RPM in most cases. It should help you out in the launch department.

well id use the stocker TBI unit but the inlet fuel line fitting is stripped out and ive already re tappe dit once then it stripped out again so its junk. Ive heard about using the converter out of a s10 so i will look into it. A coworker of mine told me that there is a place locally where i live that specializes in TBI engines and will retune and re flash my chip for 100-125 bucks. So i will check into that as well.
Man, I wish I only spent as much as you did on parts! Great buys.
I got an EBL and have been tuning myself for the past couple weeks w/o any previous experience. It cost 390 if you have them modify your ECM, cheaper if you want to grab hold of a soldering iron and do it yourself. Since I don't have that much experience (or time and patience) I had RBob do it.
Invest now so that when you make future changes you are not spending money having someone else tune your car.
The 670 is not needed, but should not hurt your application. My friend on the boards here, TonyC, has LT-1 and NOS and is at 13.80s on the bottle. You should be a little better with the vortec heads. He came out and helped me break in my 350 and was also very impressed with the EBL.
