Re: Holley Projection TB the same as GM TBI

I use this intake on my 350 (C20 Truck TBI conversion) and it works very well!. There are couple of fitment issues that you should be aware. Stock TBI intake manifold has a very small mounting pad - i.e. fuel lines in the back clear very nicely. With Projection intake there is a huge plateau and stock fuel lines will not clear without mods. I end up using 1" spacer and some creative line pending. Stock TV cable brackets do not fit - you'll have to get creative as well. In my case I found carbed van with 700R4 and Q-Jet and modified it accordingly.

This Holley Projection manifold is a high rise manifold - check your hood clearance!

HMMMM seems to be my easist option too, but can I use braided line or something to fix the fuel line issue, Im not sure If I want the Spacer, and if if I dont use the spacer will the Tv Cable work with no mods?

wow, i guess that highrise manifold + 1" spacer is likely to kill some hood clearance ^^ i think you could use braided lines and some AN fittings, even more if you have an external afpr. you can use following -6 AN fittings for the inlet and return port on the TBI unit:

TBI Inlet (Feed)
Earl's 991955 16mmx1.5 to -6AN fitting
TBI Outlet (Return)
Earl's 991954 14mmx1.5 to -6AN fitting

Re: Holley Projection TB the same as GM TBI

Heres the big problem what size distributor does that take?

I have a 92 caprice and It uses the big hole Dizzy,

What are my options,

Get the intake opened up for the bigger dizzy (if it doesnt accept it)

Get another dizzy with Electronic advance

Use the dizzy I have and cut the firewall to get under the cowl (if it can fit in the dizzy hole)

RF master, let me know

Hey racing71

Yes, I know first hand about big holes dizzy in B-Body cars - that almost sounds dirty but it is not... Hmm about a year and half ago I came across wrecked B-Body on a local JY. At the time I did not know anything about big hole B-Bodies, but then I had cleanup day in my garage when I lined-up three different dizzies:

From left to right '84 CCC Pontiac firebird, '89 camaro, and 91 B-Body

All three will work with C3 ECM. The only change required is to swap 4-pin EST connector. Otherwise electrically they are operate in the same manner. The standard hat HEI and compact can be easily interchanged. In some instances were firewall clearance is tight compact HEI is desirable. However, full size HEI tend to be more robust - fewer coil failures that tend to frequent compact HEI.
For B-Body car Chevy engineers had to design a unique intake manifold and dizzy to clear firewall cowling. Intake dizzy hole has a larger diameter and it sits lower. I have critical dimensions somewhere.
In the following photo standard small hat HEI is on top and bottom is B-Car specific dizzy

The question - can you use Projection intake on a B-Body??? I do not know. Maybe, but if recall removing dizzy on that wrecked Caprice was not easy.

Im realy thinking about just getting another Electronic Dizzy and cutting the firewall or something

Probably will, with a little help from 'vibrational' motivator. Say, can you post pictures from a stock B-Body setup????
