Re: whats the most bhp you can expect from a 305tbi

In stock form, my 305 TBI put down 142hp and 224lb/ft. Headers and a high flow exhaused gained 12hp and 3lb/ft, open element air cleaner and slight tune of ECM gained 10hp and 16lb/ft. Peak hp also came higher in the RPM band both times. With my "bolt-ons" I've gained 22hp and 19lb/ft for a total of 164hp and 243lb/ft.

Re: whats the most bhp you can expect from a 305tbi

I got a 305 tbi. I did'nt even think twice about modding that engine. Its too expensive for such little gains.

I did pick a used 97 vortec 350 and will be doing that budget tbi build with maybe a couple of extras.

And dude I can throw a lot of money at the 305 but in my opinion its not worth it.

One of the guys here has a neat thread about putting in a used vortec he got off of craigs list check it out its got some prices on what he paid and added on.

good luck

good luck

well technically any aspirated engine with good flowing heads can get at least 1 hp per cubic inch. so 305 horsepower is not out of the question. you'd have to do some computer mods to achieve that with a tbi setup. you can also expect 1.5 hp per cubic inch at somet ime too. but 1 hp per ci is a basic thought.

TBI is really pathetic when you consider most four cylinder junker cars make the same hp. I guess Chevrolet really wanted it's Z28 in high demand. I do love my TBI though =) dang... sounds like I will need an LT1 cam to get to 200hp. I wanted to avoid that. And heads? That's a good 250+hp. Give and LO3 $6,000, and it'll give you 300hp... but by then you could have an LS7 505hp ZO6 'Vette motor =)
