305? 383? 454?

This is where i am stuck, i have been offered a 383 Stroker(tbi i believe.. tryin to get more info) motor for free, and also a 454 big block for approx. 200 bucks. Although i am not made of money and realize that the 383 would work most likely best seeing how all/most of my components from my stock 305 tbi to the 383. Although having a bad *** 454 wouldnt be bad either.

What is ur advice? fix up the 305? Throw in the 383? Or go big and over the top with a 454?

Also is there must else i would have to change with each motor? granted i kno i have not provided very much info, but assuming the 454 is a 4bbl and the 383 is a tbi like the 305.

Would my 5 speed stock tranny work with the 383? or recommended to get a higher performance tranny?

Think in terms of low cost aswell

Thanks,
Troy

A free 383 will work with no issues. If its TBI and your current 305 is TBI, everything should bolt right up, without any problems.

Your stock tranny will work, but depending on how much power the 383 is spitting out with determine how long the tranny lasts.

Depends how much power the engine makes.
3.73 is a good street/strip gearing though.

Re: 305? 383? 454?

The t-5 will not hold up behind a stock 350 for very long, and your going to put a 383 in front of it? I would look into a 6 speed swap for the power holding and the double overdrive. Seriously, you will frag the t-5.
