Need advice for 350 swap

1991 Camaro rs, 305 tbi 700r4 that my sister blew a headgasket on, and i got to reading about the 350 swap, and figured it would be better than throwing money at a 150k mile 305.

First off, whats the best 350 to swap in place? I do want a roller cam (even that 305 revs to 6k rpm like butter). I heard about the 96-99 vortec (old style engine) but dont know how "bolt in" they are.

Secondly, i read about the lt4 hot cam, how well does that work with a stock computer?

Third, what all computer mods do i need? If i go with the lt4 hot cam, would it be better to use the bigger injectors from the cop car caprices? The fuel pump is the same for a 4.3 tbi or a 454tbi, so i shouldn't have a problem there. Would a throttle body spacer help at all? I think it would add a little performance on a stock intake, but at the same time i don't think it would clear the stock hood.

And last, whats the best style of stock rear to throw under these cars? with overdrive, im thinking a 3.40-3.73 gear range would be the best all around gear.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated, this swap wont be happening till later in the summer, and after i get the 4 speed swap done in my 80 camaro. Thanks guys.

Re: Need advice for 350 swap

Guess i didnt ask teh right questions? just wondering what the best 350 would be to use, and how well teh lt41 hot cam kit worked with the stock ecm and the cop car tbi injectors. If all else fails we have a local place that i can get to tune it for me.

WOW, Slow down there...You expect a plethora of responses in a very short period of time. I bet most have not even browsed over your thread yet. As far as advice for a swap. I layed out my best advice in a thread that became stickied right at the top of the page. This should have most of the info you need.

Re: Need advice for 350 swap

Well, i figured 3 days was long enough before bumping the thread to the top again.

I read through the sticky, and used search, and didnt find anywhere it said the best 350 for the swap. I know the 87 and newer blocks are setup for roller cam and what not, the sensors need to be swapped, injectors are different, but its a more or less bolt in swap.

Edit: just i missed that thread, i did read the other about the 350 swap. Thanks for the link.
