bowtie tbi, vs. a Bluoval 5.0 whats needed

Ok, my camaro is a 91RS TBI 305.. this kid has an 88 5.0 GT hatchback,
My RS goes 0-60 in about 10 to 11 seconds.. I know, its really fast as hell. It has no power above 4000 rpm. It does however get decent gas mileage. The Mustang is just your everyday 5speed 5.0. I am sure its way faster..

Right now I am performance hungry, what would I need to do to my TBI 305 to be able to compete with this mustang. I want to go faster!!

first thing is exhaust, do the headers back. you'll help it out a lot. then id change the air cleaner to an open element or cold air induction. bump the timing up from 0 to about 6 or 8 degrees. make sure you have a full tuneup. still might not beat him with that. make sure the transmission is working properly. if u want to go deeper you need to change the cam, get into chip tunign etc. im sure the first mods might get you close, but without changing the rear end gears to at least 3.08's your going to get beat up by the stang. sorry to say.

A lot of work. Those RS 305 TBI cars were never meant to be performacne cars. They're base models.

You'd need cam, heads, exhaust, and gears to keep up.

wow, so much modification and you guys still say that I can't beat him or barely beat him.. I do have an Iroc rear posi end with 3.23 gears I think..And a flowmaster catback.. Thats all for mods..

But, he wants to trade vehicles with me.. I am almost tempted to accept his offer.. you guys are going to have to talk me out of it..

You'd need at least 45 more cubes, exhaust, cam, good tune, etc..... Sorry, but stock Stangs are pretty quick and LO3's aren't.

You don't need 45 cubes, just good heads, a decent cam, and good header/exhaust setup. TBI unit on a single plane manifold with tuning. You could get 350-400 hp out of the right setup on a 305 and show those Mustang boys a thing or two. 300 HP is STUPID EASY with 305 Vortec heads, a mild hydraulic roller cam, headers, full exhaust, and a single plane intake. I ran 14s in a fullsize van with 3.08 gears, 700r4, and stock 1,600 rpm converter. I only had a flat-tappet hydraulic cam and a standard Edelbrock Performer Vortec intake. A good eye will spot the port work on the 059 vortecs that had 1.94/1.60 valves installed in them.

I forget if this picture was of the 305 or 350, but it looked identical.
