Horrible idle and stalling

Hey guys, I took my 92 v8 Camaro RS out yesterday for a spin and everything was running great. I pulled into a convience store and shut if off. when I came back out to start it, suprise: it didn't want to turn over.

The engine cranks and there is spark. Fuses are all good. I turned the ignition key on and I hear the fuel pump engaging...

I did get the car to start by holding the gas pedal to the floor. When the car finally started, it had a horrible idle/smoke and if I let off the gas it would stall out. The strange thing I noticed, if I turned the ignition key on and off a bunch of times to run the fuel pump the car would start up perfect, idle for about 3 minutes and then just suddenly die.

There is a SES light code that came on, but I don't know where the diagnostic panel is on this car (yet)

I suspect it's the fuel pressure/fuel pump. I'm going to try replacing the fuel filter real quick since it's easy and pick up the book on it so I can retrive some error codes....any other advice or things I can check would be appreciated.

Re: Horrible idle and stalling

My problem turns out to have been the EGR valve was stuck/sticking. I picked up a new one, had the new one installed in minutes and she fired right up. So I didn't have to get the car towed, change a fuel filter or pump.

The error code was 53.
