T.B.I 1227747 Wont run in closed loop mode

Guys i have a problem i cant seem to put my finger on.. ok i installed a 5.7 lo5 T.B.I in my jeep wrangler with a art carr 700r4 transmission.

I will let you know as much as i think your going to need to know .

#1 I get code for no 02 sensor
#2 also my computer wont run in closed loop mode

I am running ALDL and my 02 voltage doesnt move @ about 4.55v
I replaced the 02 sensor and no go.. here are some things i did i think might be a problem. Please Help!!!!

Ok i have headers 1 1/2 to dual flowmaster super 44's dual exhaust no y or crossover

I am also running a 160* thermostat but it runs warm not alot of room under there for large fan or radiator. Even if i shut off fan and let it go to about 200* it wont run in closed loop mode.. I hear my 02 may not be getting hot enough? 650*? do u guys think that is the problem? Can i just go to the junk yard and pick up a 3 wire heated sensor off a little newer GM?

I hate when somthing isnt running rite im about to take her a couple hundred miles and trying to get the best fuel eco possible. and with 37" tires and a v8 i need all the help i can get

Re: T.B.I 1227747 Wont run in closed loop mode

Your O2 voltage is at 4.55V? That certainly isn't right. Should be .45V until it gets hot, then you should start seeing cross counts increasing. The .45V bias is provided by the ECM. So if you unplug the O2 sensor, you should measure .45V on the wire running to the ECM. Once the O2 sensor gets hot, it will generate its own voltage that runs between 0 and 1 volts. The system can't run in closed loop unless it sees cross counts from the O2 sensor, that's the feedback that closes the loop.

Re: T.B.I 1227747 Wont run in closed loop mode

ok i added the heated 02 sensor.. it seemed to work out.. i still dont know how to read a/f ratio on win aldl but i am new at this.

On the test drive my 700r4 trans went to shift and didnt and was like its in neutral.. now i have bigger problems since im about to take it a few hundred miles... I have it narrowed down to the pump or torque converter.. any ideas anyone

winALDL does not read A/F. It reads BLM/INT and sensor output and CE/SES codes(I recall). A WB02 will read A/F.
The BLM info it provides allows you to fine tune the VE fueling tables to 128 BLM plus or minus 3.

Re: T.B.I 1227747 Wont run in closed loop mode

ronney,
thanks for clearing that up! I'm new to forums and looking for a good starting location to understand my values and relate them to whats going on.

In my jeep im mostly concerned about all around running good. miles per gallon, and dependability. when im x amount of miles out on the trail im worried when the next thing may go wrong. I am hoping to use this information as perventive maintenece!

Any good place to start learning where these #'s should be? I'm having a hard time reading the values. (dont send me to Penn State) but a good starting basis.

Im not looking to tune at this point. But if i had my way, some day i will be flipping switches between power, fuel and everything else

Im running a 1990 gmc jimmy 5.7 l 350 tbi in my jeep ecm #1227747 it seems only winaldl suports my ecm and rite now the sensors and values dont line up rite using windows note pad.

So im that lost in all of this, I did graduate from penn state but not with computer programming or auto mechanics but electrical engineering so im good with voltages and getting them wired but there language is another story ..

Re: T.B.I 1227747 Wont run in closed loop mode

Read the stickies in DIY-PROM as far as datalog interpretation goes. Same for above sticky here in TBI called "free tune". When I used winALDL a few years back I recall the sensor values were apparent without use of Notepad. they just appeared? As far as BLM I recall I used Narrow Latest to determine my BLM's. I recall some info on Joby's website that may help you. It requires about 20 minutes of logging at various RPM/MAP to get enough "hits". you may want to lock the trans in 1-2 to get higher MAP hits. Would help to find a 1/2 mile incline to datalog it as well.
