Which 383 kit would be good for a street motor? While still giving me enough strength that I wont have to worry about anything breaking. I want a full rotating assembly kit.
Will my comp xfi268 cam be too mild?
I have 113 vette heads, im taking cyl block service and cyl head service in school right now. So I basically have free access to a machine shop to do any machining. What valves/springs/rockers should I get for these heads?

subscribed for answer probably can't help you much but i'd guess that the 268 cam would be a bit on the milder side and the 113 heads (unless heavily ported) would probably be maxed out, but that is of course all depending on your power/rpm goals.
Plan on just making decent power, something streetable.
I want a strong kit though, because maybe down the road ill get some better heads.
Ill play around with camquest, try to look at some different cam options.
I got my block today, 160$ shipped from ebay, already been all cleaned and its ready for machine work.
Casting Number- 14093638
So no one has any recommendations for a good forged 383 rotating assembly?

I think eagle is popular. I'd check the tpi forum, nothing but 305's really in the tbi forum a few with 350's and like one person with a 383. Good Luck

Yeh, thats another dilemma. I have the EBL flash ECU and a wideband O2 sensor, plus I have a 454 Throttle body laying around. Would that give me a good set-up? Or what other options do I have for fuel injection on an 86+ block? If I stay with TBI ill keep my Edelbrock Performer RPM intake.

im currently building a 383 at school as well, but i went with a 010 casting number pre 86 block. and i scored a deal from an old student my teacher new, apparently he lost his job, and i bought the block, rods, crank, pistons, bearings, timing chain and piston rings for 700 bucks. he purchased it as a kit originally and it was a Scat stroker kit with Keith Black forged pistons, and everything is already clearanced so nothing has to be ground down. and so far its worked good for me, it came with 6 inch rods as opposed to 5.7 inch rods which i hear is the difference between some kits, but anyways the only problem i had was that i had to pay extra to have it balanced since according to machinist it was alot more difficult than a standard 350.
the main difference between your build and mines is im going carb, and my cam is also alot more wild. let me know how it goes.

Im going to go with a larger cam then the xfi268 I have, thats for sure, lol.
I take machine shop in school, so I just pay for the class and I can use all the equipment like 5 hours a week for a whole semester, and the teachers all know there stuff so they can help me do what I gotta do if i get stuck or am not sure about something.

454 tbi should work if not , xtreme fi makes tbis that are suppose to support 400 plus. Check ebay out thats where I found xtreme fi.

yeah, we have a power hone machine, boring rod, rotary broche(sp?) and all the basic stuff, but i still had to take it somewhere to get it balanced since we dont have that machine

Well I guess fortunately we have a balancer at my school, its probably 50 or 60 years old like all the equipment at my school, but it still gets the job done perfectly
But you should look into Speedway Motors. They probably have the cheapest rotating assemblys you can find. I think you can get a "Economy" kit that will work in your power bracket for like $450 lol. They are worth checking out. Super cheap prices and TONS of know how.
