I was thinking of running a fuel pump from an iroc in my RS since I'm gonna swap motors in the future.....any issues with this? I was informed my regulator would keep the correct pressure even thought its for the iroc. Any suggestions on a better pump? The rearend is out so I might as well do the pump. Thanks
My fuel pump just died. The relays seem to work. I bought a BOSCH Premium pump to install. I have heard that the rear end, differential, must be removed and muffler and exhaust too. I don't want to do that, so I think I am am going to cut a hole through the metal in the back of the car, to reach the top of the fuel tank to install this, then repair the hole. Any thoughts on that??

Do a couple more searches and see what's involved. I'm doing it right now because I'm swapping rearends. IT IS A PAIN.....this isn't my daily driver so it can be down for awhile but I've removed everything but the exhaust cause there's enough room to lower the tank once the rear is out. I really think it's worth it to remove the tank because now I can spray rust inhibitor up there and dress up little stuff while its all out and get the tank cleaned etc. Plus I'm upgrading the pump for future mods and if its done right with good parts I shouldnt have to do it again for a long time. If you have the time/motivation I suggest doing it. I think cutting a hole in the floor is WAY too risky IMHO. Good luck

Com'on cutting a hole thru the floor of your car. Thats dangerous for gas fumes getting in your car. Do the job right the first time and take the time it takes to pull the tank down and do it properly.
you can do the fuel pump swap with a good set of jackstands and the usual tools plus some PB blaster and similar in a day maximum.
it's not worth cutting up your chassis - do it once do it right!
Too late, cut it and peeled it like a sardine can, swapped the pump, filter, wiring, and gasket. Then bonded a piece of aluminum over it, airtight. 45 minutes. I know I'm a bad boy, but I hope you guys giving me advice have actually done that job. It is 10 hours of pain in the a**. This car is a little rough anyway. It's no show car, and it leaks rain, and has 200,000 miles on it. But I still love her. Thanks for telling me to do it right though. I don't recommend my way for everyone. The tank is only 5/16" away from the metal I cut.
Your thinking of the sending unit and they're the same on both...I believe.
you are in fact correct. and i was wrong. had a chance to look under car when it was on a rack and i put a new aluminum pan on the trans.
yet, all the pipes, bells and whistles are there. now you do have to change the tubes to convert to tpi from tbi - but everything is there on the tank -

it was that close? i drilled a hole in the top to see how far down and it touched tank at 1 inch but that includes the width of the sheet metal. and if i move the nail over towards the front that it where i think i feel the top of the fuel pump assembly, and it is darn close to the sheet metal.
im going to go your route - i have everything off in the back now anyway and im doing a little work back there so i am just going to make the hole and cover it using sheet metal screws and gasket.
how hard was it to cut the sheet metal and what did you use?
