I'm going to be putting a 350 in my nephew"s 88 camaro with the TBI injection. He loves the sound of cams so I thought I would see if I can find something mild but yet has a slight lope. He was wanting something like my 2000 TA has but I said no way. haha. Would something in the 212 up to a 216@.050 work and not have much idle issues? I have no way of tuning the older cars and he doesn't have the money. I'm just rebuilding a stock 350 so if I can put a mild cam in and have it still run ok I was thinking of doing that.
the largest cam I think you could get away with and it MIGHT run would be a Ram Jet cam. (196/206 @.50 .431int/.451exh. 112 LSA PN#14097395) Even then to get the absolute most out of it it will definately need to be tuned. Or if you want to go alittle milder go for a stock Vortec or Bbody LT1 cam 10243779 191/196 - .418int/.430exh 111 LSA.

@mvvette, are you going to use a L05 (TBI 350) tune/pcm for this? imho there's no way running a 350 on a 305 tune, even more so if you go one step up from stock for the cam.

do not confuse a lack of traction with an excess of torque
88 truck used C3 1227747 ECM which is early ECM design. These ECM have been reversed engineered and are well understood. However, we are dealing with early '80s semiconductor design (and firmware) which limits performance potential in its stock form.
You have several options that will allow you to cirmvante these limitations. Upgrade 7747 with EBL or go to a later ('90) P4 PCM 727. In both cases tunng will be required.
