hi, im from LS1Tech.com (rob scott), i just picked up a 1988 chevy c1500. i picked this truck up for $700 and it has a 305 in it. i plan on using it to tow my camaro to the track. i was wondering if someone could tell me what the stock size cam is @ 50? i tried a search but couldn't find anything out. i'm looking to put a little bit bigger torque cam in the truck for towing, and i don't want to go to crazy. i was looking at the comp cam xtreme 4x4 210/214 lsa 111 for it but i wasn't sure of the stock cam size.
i already know that it's a 305 and someone will more then likely say drop a 350 in it, but hell for $700 that 305 can do it's job for me on the weekends.

179/194 @ .050, 240ish/248ish @ .006, .350/.385" lift, 109* LSA on a 106* ICL.

If you are looking for a broadband torque that you need from otherwise stock 305 (88 truck ) I would look for LSA 114 vs 111. 114 will offer broader torque curve vs. 111. Do not go crazy with duration it is only a 305 (200 should be fine). The problem is that your current stock exhaust will restrict any performance gains from a cam swap. Also I doubt stock springs are up to the job! As for 350 mill look for L31 - just drop a stock vortec in place of tired 305. You'll have to get vortec specific intake manifold and swap dizzy gear (vortec has a roller cam). Bigger injectors and ECM will require some tuning, but you already knew this was coming. This is quickly becoming a project already.
