Astro v8 swap ECM question.

I know this is a Camaro web site but it is hand down the webs leader in TBI information, so please don't jump all over me.

I have been searching the site for the last few days and I have a couple questions I could not find answers to.

I have a 1994 Astro van with a 4l60e transmission and 16197427 ecm. As far as I can tell all I need to to to get my 4.3 tbi ecm to work with a 350, is swap the chip right?

And I am a bit confused, I know I need to swap the ESC unit for one from a v8. I have found 2 different models with two different part numbers 16128261 and 16128251. Which spark unit is correct or does it matter?

Thanks
Zach

You 1994 Astro has the newer PCM which does not use an external knock module. The knock sensor is wired directly to the PCM and the knock filter/module is built into the Memcal. I would search for a 1993-1994 Fullsize G-van with a 5.7/4l60e combination in it. Use the memcal from it.

Re: Astro v8 swap ECM question.

Well that is good to know. So really all I need is a complete 5.7 tbi engine with a 93-94 distributor and a Memcal and I sould be good to go right?

You need a good 5.7 TBI or even a 5.0 TBI, the orange/black 61# injectors, 1993-1996 TBI 5.7 knock sensor for an automatic transmission, and a V8 TBI distributor. I would try to find one with a "369" ignition control module.

If I remember the EGR on your year model 4.3 is a Linear style full electronic unit. You will need to make a small wiring change to use the normal vacuum solenoid controlled unit that is on the 350.

Re: Astro v8 swap ECM question.

Thanks for the information. This is going to be much eaiser than I thought. When I get to the EGR I am sure I will be back here asking what to do next, but the info you just gave me should keep me busy for awhile.

Thanks
again!
