open element: flows the most air, but it gets hot air off of the engine.
Dual snorkal: flows less air, but gets cooler air to the engine.
cowl induction: My favorite, flows ALOT of COOL air, and improves looks, but you would need a new hood along with base that mates up to it. I know goodmark makes a hood with the proper cutout for the aircleaner, but it's steel not glass, so it's heavier.
The bonnet with the cone filter. I would like to see one of these. With open element, would there be too much hot hot? Or would it be better then what I've got? I put a duel snorkle on my iroc, but it fits. I have some kind of smog pump or something that keeps me from installing a duel snorkle on the rs w/throttle body. I also have an issue with the coolant reservoir. If I pick one up from the mid 80's the size is smaller, and mayve I could make it work.
You could also just put a big single snorkle with the stock routing, a little less of a headache. The base of the stock aircleaner is a little retrictive, but esy to cut out and replace, high-themp resistant silicon glues wery well.
I could use the snorkle from a 350 truck air cleaner. Maybe a K&N filter. I don't know how useful a K&N is though. And the scoop seems a bit restrictive. Let me know what you think..
There are some decent size snorkles out there, im sure your going to finde some. You could also make 1 out of 2 or use 2. For exemple 1 to the stock plastic snorkle next to the radiator and 1 duct below it in to the inside fender.
There is also a popular taller lid that allows to use the 3.5" tall filter, resulting in slightly more filtering surface then the popular 3"x14" air filter. In this case a normal paper filter will bee no restriction.
I have a couple of 350 truck lids that allow for the taller element. I am concerned about clearance with the stock hood. I like my 25th anniversary stripes too much to change the hood at this point.

I've been working on a design that combines the TPI twin element filter box with the traditional 14 x 3 open filter.
If you take picture one, with the Spectre filter housing and combine it with this modified piece from a forum member you may have the ultimate cold air induction set up for 3rd gen Camaros with a carb or TBI.
The twin filters can't support enough horsepower (even K&N's) for much above 400. The 14 x 3 has enough capacity. The TPI housing provides the fresh air and it all fits under a stock hood.

Here's what is on my iroc. I wish I could do the same for the rs, but too much stuff in the way. Do ya think an open element (chrome aircleaner) would get too much hot air? Did you mean gluing the snorkle to the pan with silicon glue?

Aaah! that's beautiful! Where did you get that setup??? Next question is will if fit under the stock hood?? I can find the scoop, but the pan/housing I need some help with.

I was looking under my hood, and trying to figure how a center scoop would work with the hood being so tightly closed. I wonder how much air would ram into it..
