resonance

does anyone know what frequency gasoline resonates?

Thanks-

Eric

Re: resonance

thats like asking what sound the moon makes...
i believe it depends on temperature and pressure though, but i cant be sure...
one thing i do know is that you are probably the first person to ever ask this

anyway, just promise me you aren't trying to get better mileage with some device that "changes" you gas somehow by vibrating it...

no, I'm not trying to make something that magically changes the el cheapo pump gas into race gas, I'm working on a paper comparing varios fuels for school. everything from 89 octane pump gas to nitro methane, covering topics such as reactivity, output, products, and igintion.

If anyone knows of any chemistry books that would have this kind of info I'd apprieciate it!

Thanks-

Eric

Re: resonance

i looked through my university chem books and found nothing.
then again i didn't take biochem or other advanced chemistry courses.

my thermodynamics book does mention that liquids have resonant frequencies, and you can use them to determine the composition, but that about it.

someone from MIT needs to chime in...

Gasoline doesn't resonate.

Things that resonate are mechanical, acoustical or electrical. Chemicals, like a complex mixture of chemicals in gasoline, don't.

Is the gasoline resonant? Not really. The waveguide (the long pipe) is a resonator and the fluid allows sound waves to travel but the gasoline itself isn't resonating --- the system of gasoline (the fluid) together with the long pipe (the waveguide) can resonate.

BTW I liked the answer about the sound that the moon makes.
