where is the IAT Intake air temperature and what does it look like on a 1991 305 tbi, and can someone post a pic. my car does not have one on the open air filter and i dont see it laying around, so i think its broke off. do i need it?
ok forget my first question i found the wires,i need to get another iat though. but i bought the car from a friend of mine and i bet the iat is in the factory intake still, but it has been like this for 3 years now and the car still runs good with out the iat what are some cons to not having it in?
i have had the car about 3 months and it runs and drive great without it.
Pros is better fuel mileage and a better running vehicle. cons well the same. I am surprise you are not getting a CE/SES light. Location would be near the inlet to your air cleaner. Mine is secured with a tywrap as I am not stock. My IAC underhood temps can vary from 65F in cool morning to 150 or so on a warm day in city traffic.
that link was for tpi i have tbi. where are you guys relocating them to? do
you have a part number for what iat i should get?
i was just going to rip one off another car at the junk yard.
my engine light does come on but the car still runs great so i never messed with it, plus my buddy i bought the car from said it did that when he had it.
ok so i got the iat and would like to move it to a cooler location, and i was thinking right at the opening of my ram air hood scoop so it would get the coldest air.
but is this safe? the tb will pump more gas because it thinks the motor is getting colder air than it really is. or does it matter?
i would like to do it as shown in pic, this is not my car.
this should be a good location, ether in the front of the ram air or the rear. the front will get colder air than the rear but the rear will be more engine temp. whats best

Not sure if its going to help for WOT performance, it may it may not, depending on the optimal AFR for your tune (maybe the AFR is already tuned for the best performance using the correct IAT values, maybe). For normal driving probably not so good idea, your better of squeesing some ° of SA in (probably the same for WOT). Moving the IAT would be a way to change the AFR's without changing the values in the bin/tune, but you would still need to monitor the AFR's or performance to figure out the best location to compensate your tune.
To tune its much better to work with the correct IAT values, the bigger the distance between the sensor and TB, the greater the themperature fluctuations of the air entering the TB vs sensor mesurements.
The lead from ECU on mine reads 5V on voltmeter with IAC unattached.
Regardless of where you locate it the A/F ratio will be stoich as NB02 feedback will keep it at stoich. The benefits of IAT I believe are those areas that are OL or so to speak OL. Such as cold start, coolant temps under threshold for CL, AE, maybe PE(?) all are affected by environmental temps. I can see fuel mileage being better as a result.
