I searched but still have a few questions about L30 heads on 305

well i have decided to keep my 305 for another couple years and see what i can squeeze out of it for funzies. I happen to come across some "cheap, decent shape, low mileage" 305 vortecs. Ive already decided ill be using a carb intake so thats already taken care of..my main question is cam. I just spent the last few hours digging through the forums but i havent been able to really pick up much on a decent cam choice. I was set on a Lt1 cam but i recently came across these l30 heads i figured that wont work because i hear the lt1 cam has too much lift for these heads. if true what cam may i use with these heads without machining them? oh and i know ill need a custom tune also for the car to run right. Im digging through the forums for that too. would it be a big headache tuning out a cam with these heads on a lo3 tbi because im trying to learn to tune so i can tune it myself.....exhaust would most likely be the hooker 2055 headers with a hooker catback...maybe a high flow cat or maybe no cat....would this get me over 240 fwhp? any input would be greatly appreciated. in advance

Re: I searched but still have a few questions about L30 heads on 305

The heads have a .550 lift kit on ebay for like 50$ no machining. You would be able to run the lt1 cam with 1.6 rockers if you want to, and wouldn't have to worry about anything. Your definately going to hahve to tune because your going to get so much more airflow, If you can't tune tbi chips will get you in the ballpark, but it won't be right so if your planning on doing a whole topend swap it's best to learn how to tune. As for horsepower with boltons h/c/i you should be at 240 to 260 rwhp maybe more if you get your tune dead on.

wow those numbers almost sound to good to be true. and i checked out the kits for the head and i found the valve spring kits with the retainers....is that all ill need to replace to be able to run a lt1 cam without a problem? and the tuning ill probably use the tbi chips until i learn to tune it myself
