zz4 cam and fuel pressure

Just out of curiosity, those who run a zz4 cam or have in the past with a tbi system what fuel pressure did you set the regulator at? I know right now i am at about 14.5 psi with 350 injectors but i have the lean back fire at wide open throttle and at 17 the car smelled a little rich at idle and low speeds. I dont want to set it too high and have it run even richer but i dont want it to run poorly either, i am looking for that happy medium.

What are all you mods? Have you tuned your pcm or got a new chip? Need a little more info. Try searching the board some the only guy I saw that was running one is bronyraur. His was suppose to be running good.

Re: zz4 cam and fuel pressure

it is a 305 with 113 heads, 1.6 rocker arms and tbi with ultimate tbi mods. I have the tpi fuel pump as well, with the 350 injectors. The computer has been tuned with a few chips burned in the process. Dont get me wrong the car runs strong, but i am curious as to where other people set their fuel pressure with larger cams without having the rich at idle problem and lean up top.

Maybe bron will chime in if not you can write him a message and maybe hell answer that way I was offered a zz4 cam , but didn't see many people running them so I didn't know if it was worth I'm not going to jack your thread though so If you would send me message and let me know how you feel about that cam and setup.

Time for a vacuum referenced FPR (VAFPR or VRFPR), pressure will increase as trottle is opened.
Unfortunately the stock ECM dosent allow such a FPR to be tuned in, fortunately EBL does and its easy to set up and tune with.

Here is the EBL flash.

http://dynamicefi.com/

Here the VAFPR that mounts at the stock location that I use (if your skilled you may mod your stock one). It requires to use shims to obtain the desired FP, thakes like 2-3 trys (15 minutes) to get it right there. Then you need some vacuum lines and connectors.

Tgo member dctrumpet has all the necessary gaskets and more.

Quick check with EBL 's calculator, 20psi for 286hp and 28psi for 338hp, thats around what your set up will require with 61 lbs injectors.

Re: zz4 cam and fuel pressure

Thank you for the feedback and the information. You currently use the ebl system with your setup correct, is it as easy as everyone says to tune with. I will set the system back up to around 20 psi for now until i can afford to get the ebl setup and the vafpr.

Re: zz4 cam and fuel pressure

I run the EBL as well, with a stock regulator (with stiffer spring) at 21psi with stock 55lb injectors. I run commanded 12.5 or so AFR up to about 6k RPM. So it's enough fuel for my setup. Idle is perfect without a vacuum reference.

whats the rpm range on your cam? Your the only guy that is running one and tuned hows the streetability, and 1/4 mile time? Thanks
I can get the zz4 cam for free so I was just wondering if it's worth it and I just got some vortec heads as well so I might be hollering at you about the tuning as well.

Re: zz4 cam and fuel pressure

Did you say your running 1.6's with ZZ4 cam? you had better change the springs on the exhaust side. With 1.6 rockers it takes the exhaust lift to .544. The stock ZZ4/LT4 springs are only good to .525. I would highly recommend putting the 1.5's back on the exhaust. As far as tuning with the EBL it freaking awesome. Even a noob like myself can get a good handle on it after a few runs.

Re: zz4 cam and fuel pressure

I changed the springs to a 600 lift rated spring when i did the cam so that is not an issue with the 1.6 rocker arms.
