Another Newb TBI question

OK, so I'm looking into an 88 Camaro rs I believe, but I know its TBI. The car only has 44k or so miles, but has been sitting in somebodys field/barn for 12 years. Its cheap enough, but I've gota figure out what the problem is first, befor buying and spenidn a million bucks on fixes. So heres the problem, I can hear the fuel pump come on, you can follow the wires (Inside wires of each injector green and red) and they have power all the way up. The outsides don't get power though, not on teh light that I could see. If we put fuel in through the intake, it fires up and runs until the fuel is gone. I'm trying to figure out common things to look for on why this is happening, anything I should look for, be aware of. Thanks in advance guys

Well you either have a bad pump, clogged filter, or bad fuel injectors. Check to see if you get any fuel pressure with the key on and that will start narrowing it down.

Re: Another Newb TBI question

I purchased a 1990 caprice that sat for about 6 months. when i went to start it and pull it into the garage I had the same problem as you. The problem was a small rubber hose that connects the fuel pump to the fuel line just before it gets routed out of the tank.Have you tried a Fuel pressure test? Check or replace fuel filter? Drop your tank and check this or go ahead and swap out the pump.

Re: Another Newb TBI question

Well, finally just gave up on it. The gentleman that owns it, well he decided to let the plenum soak in carb cleaner or something, put it all back together, and poured gas down intake, it started up, then died, tapped on the injectors a few times, tried it again, it started and died. He did a walk around, tinkering with little things, got back under the hood and a small fire had melted a few wires. Basically he gave up. So now he asked me to find somebody to buy the car or to part it out. Don't know how much he wants for the car or the parts, but he's decided to play with his 86 monte carlo instead, so I will be helping him with that, as that is where much more of my knowledge lies. Thank you all for your help, and I will still probably be a regular here, as I'm debating between an 89 with an ls6/t56 swap or a 01 t/a....decisions decisions eh?

Something as simple as a fuel pressure test will give you some great answers, I don't understand why you can't just do one of those, instead of giving up on it.

Re: Another Newb TBI question

Not that I gave up on it but the seller ended up thinking he could get more out of it in parts than he could selling it to me. Its a buddy of mines car, and he really thinks that its worth more after seeing some of the prices somewhere else. He also believes that the ttops are worth 400 bucks, doors are 200-300 bucks each ect, and I wasn't going to argue with him anymore. Oh well, to each their own, one car lost is more money to play with for the next buy!
