Re: TBI RAM AIR OR NOT? PIC!

Might be closer to cold air. Cooler more consistent air incoming temps are more desireable than drawing cold air at point car runs off 02 sensor only to have it rise to 100d F after a while.

TBI GM ECU cannot handle forced induction all that well.

I wasent sure what to call it, I just went ahead with ram air on this one, but thanks for correcting me on it though. I still think its a great idea what he has done to it though.

Yeeeaahhh....where's the air filter?

Looks cool, but this is one of those not good ideas.

The air box up front has 2 small air filters on each side. You have to open it to see them.

Re: TBI RAM AIR OR NOT? PIC!

i have a set up that is close to that . i used my stock air cleaner , re-located snorkel to front center of air cleaner housing , connected stock flex duct in reverse to TPI inlet & cut several inches off snorkel . the base of the TPI inlet was gutted ( where the filters would set ) . looks almost factory . the flex elbow duct gave me a little trouble , it would not straighten out . cured that by hanging it vertical and a little use of a heat gun . ( be careful if you do this with the heat gun/hair dryer , on plastic a little heat goes a long way ) . anyway i now get cooler air from in front of the radiator . seems to work for me , stuff like this is what "REAL" hotrodding is all about . good luck .

Wish I could, I really just didn't know. I hit me about half an hour later what it actually was.

Re: TBI RAM AIR OR NOT? PIC!

This is pretty cool. I came up with a similar design for a Caprice with the Sun Coast Ram Air Hood using a RAISS CAI....I haven't done it yet because the dang RAISS is so expensive....but here is a pic of what it looks attached...also..the space of tubing in between the air filter and the carb hat would be a great location for a MAF sensor...in the event that some one would do a MAF conversion on their TBI system...he he he

Re: TBI RAM AIR OR NOT? PIC!

Yours is not bad at all. By any chance do you have a stock hood or aftermarket? Theres a hood going on here on the forms that look like the new 5th gen ss hood. That would be nice with your setup if the hood was cut out.
