timing belt setup?

i did some research and looked into the whole underdrive and shorter belt but what i came across was the idea of a timing belt.... has anyone attempted with a 305 tbi to go with a timing pully & belt and maybe underdrive pullies to follow up that are timing?

i was thinking to do (crank,water,alt,& maybe ps)... just want some opinions and ideas...

so you dont mean install a timing belt where your current timing chain is? you mean replace a serpentine belt with a timing belt? thier is no need for that. a timing belt is designed to handle immense pressure from turning over an engine while a serpentine is designed to run smoothly while being driven by the engine.

oooh, i never knew that. hmm.. would there be an easy way for a 305 tbi belt setup to be made with taking out the smog pump and ac?

All you really need is the A/C delete pulley - the smog can be removed by simply rerouting a longer belt ...

would there be any true gains? considering just removing the smog and keeping the ac pulley... thats only a couple inches it seems :\

For most guys, a few inches is a huge gain!

I'm not sure there's any hp gain in removing any of it - the A/C doesn't make much resistance since it's free spinning unless the A/C is on and the clutch on the compressor engaged.

HP isn't gained or lost by length of the belt (just ask my wife). It's the tension that the accessories create, which is very little.

better response? and less work for the crank to have to drag? i heard it helps gas mileage and a bit of power... dont know the amount but...
