92 L03 Fuel mileage mods

So I have been getting around 23-24 mpg in mixed conditions with limited idling and minimal a/c in my 92 Firebird 700r4/2.73 open combo, and was wondering what all have yall done to squeeze out a little more? So far all I have is a 195 thermostat which will be replaced with the stocker for winter and cat-back exhaust and a light right foot. This is a 42,000 mile daily with a recent (under 6k) tune up. I will have my 1.5 aluminum roller rockers on this car as soon as I pull apart my SS. I have the stock 15's with stock size tires and an aluminum driveshaft and aluminum drums.

Will an out of the box (Jet) tune help or hurt me, and what all does it do other than add a little more timing and possibly fuel? Also am I missing anything else that I can do to increase my range of a tank?

Also it would be nice for everyone to post up what they have and what mileage it gets under nice driving.

Thanks
Bear

"Mixed" that's about right. Highway I could get up to 32mpg on mine. What more do you want for a V8? Even the 3 cylinder "Smart Car" (which by the way is the DUMBEST thing I've seen yet) only gets 40, and that's downhill with a good tailwind!

Consider yourself lucky to get that - the 350 TPI cars get 12 from what I gather. I don't think you'll get any more without "inconvenient" mods - like tearing out all the seats and everything unnecessary for weight reduction - but even then your heaviest components (besides drive train) are the hatch, the doors (got to be 300 lbs in doors alone! lol), etc.

Basic tune up, timing at factory setting, good plugs, air filter, and tire pressure is all you can do at this point. Do like me - get a $1200 motorcycle for daily commuting - I had a 1982 Yamaha 650 that got 50mpg and I rode it to work daily to save cash for my Camaro!

+1 to what camaronewbie said. make sure your EGR is working well! if your car is a low-miler and tuned up recently, there's prolly not much more you can do to keep milage up, other than getting an ebl and tuning it, but that's a rather big investment.. btw imho the 195° t-stat comes stock anyways. good luck on some more mpgs.
