Definitely a good read, very interesting and it gives me hope for trying to build up my little 305. The basic point the writer is trying to show is that the 305 is actually pretty kickass. Also goes into modifying it too.

Hope ya guys enjoy it
Ahhhh not again! This article is like a zombie, you can't kill it.
The article is well intended but is riddled with flaws. It is evident that the author never actually performed half of the mods he speaks of. If you follow his lead, you will be incredibly disappointed when your car turns into a disaster. Not to mention the numerous theoretical fallacies found throughout the article.
There is really only one place to go to gain inspiration for your 305 TBI and that is here. Read posts by Dewey, JProvost, kdrolt, and most importantly Fast355. These are the real modders of LO3’s and you will learn more in one of their posts than you will in that entire article.

I saw this site come back up many times in the past as well, i guess it won't ever die. The fact is, like shifty said "its riddled with flaws", and i personally have been there modding out the TBI system and L03 just to find it not worth the time or effort or the destruction of my patience.... I got myself a 350 and popped on a Holley 600 cfm carb. Runs great now.... TBI may be a great system but I didn't see the great part about it.. Just talk to the other guys who have had luck with the L03, talk to Fast355, he's got quite the stouty L03....
Yup, that is Black Echo, he was banned a long time ago. One of the biggest Internet loudmouths you'd ever want to meet. He was convinced the LO3 was the dominent motor of the Thirdgen cars and made posts about swapping TPI motors out for LO3's. He was a genuine idiot lol.
I wonder if it's related to the page I found touting the benifits of TBI over any other induction system (mostly corb and TPI) that was also filled with contradictory info.
Like when he said that the TPI intake was limited by it's 48mm TB that was expensive to upgrade but then tried to claim the much smaller TBI TB didnt suffer from the same fault, despite the TBI's added problem of the injectors directly in the air stream.
The main advantage the TBI systems have over TPI is that with a simple adaptor the TBI can use just about any factory or aftermarket intake.
It's too bad the link no longer works though. There was still some good information in there.
The only useful info on that page was the underhood wiring and sensor diagrams. They weren't accurate as to scale, but knowing what was where was of great help.
In my opinion, the LO3 was the greated base engine ever put in a GM vehicle
Very effcient (30+ mpg HW)
Common parts
Excellent longevity (dozens of this forum are +200k)
Cheap and easy to upkeep
Minor mods can be swapped with any other SBC
Low power is good for insurance
For a first V8, or just a daily driver they fit the bill perfectly. From a perfomance standpoint, they fall short

Pocket summed it up perfectly. My L03 was incredibly reliable. I pulled it out with 253K on the clock. Not because it quit running though. Wanted more oomph, so in goes the super-rammed 355! I wouldn't doubt it at all if my L03 would make it another 100K. I got tired of waiting for it to die. Only car I've ever pulled an almost perfectly good running motor out of.

TBI may be a great system but I didn't see the great part about it..
The great is in it's EFI controls. However, as most people seem to think of tuning their computers as something akin to witchcraft, no one really takes advantage of it.
