Signed up on thirdgen awhile ago but havent visited since this build started- thought you guys might enjoy this.
I own a high performance/speed shop in NC and wanted to come up with an affordable engine package for the TBI crowd that would make 300fwhp on 87 octane, and get 20mpg in a pickup. Used my own daily driver (92 silverado sport 350) as the guinea pig.
Heres the results: 322/376 on the engine dyno (with a holley 600), and 245/308 on the chassis dyno. This is with an UNported 350 TB, stock air cleaner base, shorty headers, single exhaust, and 87 octane. truck gets 16-17mpg in town, and 19mpg on the highway, with a 700r4 and 3.08s. Best 1/8 mile to date is 9.33 @ 76mph, and thats on street tires and a peg-leg rear.

Im not here to sell anything- just passing this info along to you guys, and ill be glad to help if you have any engine-related questions.
Re: truck TBI smallblock build, dyno results and vid.
*raises hand*
So what flow rate injectors did you use and what fuel pressure? And how close are you to maxing that injector setup. You're about where I what to go with my 305 and I'm curious of the real world fueling requirements.
Re: truck TBI smallblock build, dyno results and vid.
454 injectors from Auto Zone (67 ea.) and a 255l pump + spring from Brian @TBI chips. No clue what the fuel pressure is LOL....just tuned it to what is there. The 350 injectors might have worked for this setup, but they wouldve been running about maxed out, so I installed the 454s and had it tuned accordingly. Works great, although im told the ECM I have has no way to adjust cranking fuel, so the throttle has to be cracked open on hot starts- something I can easily deal with for the extra power thats there.....

Re: truck TBI smallblock build, dyno results and vid.
Thanks for posting the results. Not bad at all. Looks like a little over a 20% horsepower loss from the engine dyno to the chasis dyno with a 700R4. A little less than a 20% loss on the torque.

Thats always the case....The higher the input speed the greater the loss. The higher the HP input, the greater the loss.

Ill be the first to admit I know very little about fuel injection or tuning it. man that would be great if the cranking fuel could be backed down.......is this adjusted in the chip when its burned?

Nothing fancy at all....this was a low buck build. Just a basic 2 bolt, 60-over block (only because I had a worn .040 over block to use) stock rods, cast crank (balanced assembly) hyper. flat tops, vortec 906 heads (exh side ported only) comp xe256 flat tappet cam (for efi) and matching springs, stock rockers and pushrods, summit stage-1 intake with tbi adapter, shorty small tube headers, flowmaster collector, 3 inch hi flow cat and super 44 muffler. Compression is 9.7:1 and runs fine on 87 octane.
I bet thatd be a great 4x4 engine....very broad, flat torque curve and pulls great on top.....to 5400-5500rpms, before nosing over.

i had a bin from my truck when it had a 6299 but i lost it. it ran really well, better than the 7747 i had in it. but yes cranking AFR is adjustable. i have the xdf if you want to look at it

I did ALOT of work on the 299 about 6-7 years ago when I was tuning one. Before I got my hands on a 7427.

Pardon my ignorance..I just dont know much about the efi stuff...especially TBI.
What are my options here? Is there a different ecm I can plug in and go with that would be better? I would love to be able to fine tune this thing myself with a laptop only.....cant justify buying a hundred chips and a burner to do it when the current tune works quite well. itd be great to have a tune for the track and one for highway mpg.
Im told these things can be converted to run an EPROM (or is it EEPROM)? Would that allow me to fine tune with a laptop only?
Im lost here.....any links to a good thread or 2 would be great!!
P.S.- Brian has done a great job dialing this thing in, but since I dont have a datalogger, it is hard to take time off and drive to his place and have him do it. I asked him to get me in the ballpark and he did it, and then some! (plans are for a ported TB in the future so i was not concerned about getting it 110% perfect in its current state.)

Re: truck TBI smallblock build, dyno results and vid.
I've seen the video of this truck... SWEET!
Hey guys I have heard of the EBL, but it's a bit pricey for someone on a super tight budget...
What would be the bare essentials to get into burning chips for the 7747??
I went over to moates.net and I am totally lost!
As I get into this more I am sure I will figure things out, I am wanting to do a S10 V8 swap, I also have an 89 Iroc Z 350 TPI
So baby steps are required I hope to achieve what LKN has, Fast355 I have seen some of your work (youtube) amazing
Thanks guys
I hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread but I have started the journey just as LKN Speed is and I know that Fast355 seems to know this stuff like the back of his hand
Don
