is that wheel or crank hp? assuming everything else on the engine being in good working order, all you need to take a L03 to 200 crank hp is a good set of headers, 2.5" or 3" high-flow cat and catback of course a custom prom tune always helps too, even more so with every mod you add.

0 hp and 0 tq

L03 threw a rod and then locked up so I have a modified l05 going in soon.
But when it did run it felt like a decent 150 or so for having 98k miles on the motor.

Yeah? I didn't notice too much of a difference when I installed my 2055's, 3 inch magnaflow cat, to my hooker max flow 3".

Then again I hadn't driven the car in about three months before I installed everything.

From 170 hp to 200 is almost a 20 percent increase, pretty noticeable.

For that power you need to add a mild cam and fueling too.

Re: What you putting down with your 5.0TBI

well Thomas, i think for 200 crank hp it's all in the tune once you have a suitable exhaust system
jbucago, the "Chip" row in your format is useless imho. any off the hook chip is not gaining you anything, you need a custom chip. you also still haven't specified whether you're talking about 200 hp at the flywheel (aka "crank hp") or at the rear wheels!

iirc, Fast355 made 400 flywheel on one of his 305 TBI projects. better have a look yourself and browse this forum!

Re: What you putting down with your 5.0TBI

Im talking about to the wheels. im sorry i didnt specify better.. i was hoping for a thread full of proud 5.0 TBI guys bragging about there car so i could use this thread as a link to back me up when i tell my fellow car buddies im gonna build the FREE motor i already have in my Car. They seem to have a nac for telling me its pointless and i minus well drop a freaking 350 in it! Its like sure one day! when im not broke.. they dont seem to grasp that this motor can be built up as well. Beyond 200hp to the wheels.

Re: What you putting down with your 5.0TBI

Interesting read, but not practical at all for most of us.

The engine in the article was built with no emission standards in mind and ran on 108 octane race gas.

Neither of those facts are very practical in my opinion.

I honestly couldn't tell you exactly how much power I put down to the wheels but my car is powerful enough to take out tuned LT1 cars, MANY honda's turbo or not, An Infinti G35 a handful of times and a few turboed Jetta's, two SRT-4's and many others. From what everybody tells me my car as it sits is in the very low 14 to high 13 second territory. I have yet to take it to the track.

Re: What you putting down with your 5.0TBI

My old L03 runs like a raped ape now after all the mods I did to it:

Edelbrock TES headers to 3 inch catless exhaust
ported and polished L03 "swirlport" heads
LT1 .451 lift cam, 1.5 roller rockers
swapped TBI system for fully ported and polished Tuned port system
19 lb/hr multi-tec II injectors(with 8 outlet pintle)
AFPR, bumped Fuel pressure up an extra 3 psi to deal with the cam
descreened MAF
MSD wires and coil
Autolite iridium plugs
dual K&N air filters
timing set to 9* BTDC
3.42:1 rear end gears

It spins the wheels from a dead stop without the aid of the brakes now :P

Ive already taken down a few cars that I couldn't keep up with before, and traction has become the biggest issue I have with it now, need to put a locker in it.

I'm betting it will be even better with a proper tune too!

There must have been something SERIOUSLY wrong with your car before. Mine has 2.5" exhaust, open element and no cat and it roasts tires, without aid of brakes. I can't make tires last 6 months on my car. It beats all types of cars, too.

Not sure if that was sarcastic or not, but every stock 305tbi I've seen has no problem spinning the tires off the line with a 2.73 open rear end.

When I got my RS, it ran on 7 cylinders. It still smoked that one tire lol. If you had a low geared posi, I would see how you may have trouble spinning the tires.

when my car was in its prime it ran a 14.9ish 1/4 mile and if i use a HP calculator based on 1/4mile time that puts it at 200 wheel and 240 at the crank. Not bad but i have other things for the future with the setup.

How'd you run that and get those numbers with those mods? I would say you must have a HUGE cam, but you don't mention any cam supporting mods, and it is mild enough to work on a pre-burned chip...?

What are the specs on that cam? Most LO3's would only be in the 15's with that light of mods! Mine ran a 15.17 on with all stock internals and sticky tires lol.

I bought my 91 RS new with 4 miles on the odometer. It's a 305, auto w/2.73 open rear end. My RS couldn't spin the tires on dry pavement. Off the line - no spin. Power brake - no spin. Maybe if rev'd to 4k in neutral & slammed into drive the RS would have have.

My RS dyno'd 133rwhp & 220 rwtq with over 200,000 miles on it. Another RS dyno'd 150rwhp & 220 rwtq but it had headers and a few other minor mod's I don't recall.

The RS has 323,000+ miles on it now and got 33.5 mpg on her last 600+ mile road trip. Orginal 305 & 700R4 only oil, fluid & filter changes etc.

That's really weird. Mine does it and it's just about stock, with about 130k miles on it. And I mean it TOASTS them, even with new tires, on 100% dry, warm pavement. On cold pavement it spins through second gear! I don't know what was all done to it before I got it, but I don't think there was much. It had a 650 carb on it though. I swtiched it back to a TB and it still spins a lot. What does this mean... could it possibly be cammed or have different heads? It goes 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds and that seems pretty stock...

Seeing as how mine is no longer 305 cubic inches...and only at 3 psi of fuel pressure...that and I have no idea what cam is in there or if there is head work or anything else. Boo to unemployment!

What are the specs on that cam? Most LO3's would only be in the 15's with that light of mods! Mine ran a 15.17 on with all stock internals and sticky tires lol.
I had a bunch of suspension stuff done but i also think it was the really cold weather that morning. On hot days she ran low 15s all day. I have a few ultimate TBI mods and spacers and open element and higher fuel pressure. Theres alot not in my signiture anymore since the car is a metal shell now. Id have to look up the cam its been a while but i think it was slightly bigger than the LT1 cam when I was researching all this.

Okay, that makes sense, now what CompCams can you run without having to tune your LO3? I just want to run it on a preburned tbichips chip.

yes it was a 2.72 POSI differential. as for MPGs? Im putting down 16-17 city 25-27 highway, its about as much as my buddie's northstar does on gas. with the 3.42 and the mods ive done to it, it REEALLY slaps you into the seat now.

wow, i never noticed 60mph is about at 950 rpm with the 2.73 gears! Oo
with 3.42 it should be about 1150 rpm.

with my totally stock L03, 700R4, 2.73 and nothing than an EBL with stock tune i managed to get about 23mpg at a 300 miles trip driving 90 to 100mph.

mines completely stock and it'll smoke tires half way down my street no problem, and it has 115,000 miles on it, but mabye its the way you take care of the engine too, cause the owner before me, myself being the second, changed the oil every 1000 miles and the engine is clean enough to eat off of and he was a cop so I know he was nice it, so mabye care is a factor too

My L03 is mated with a T5, so there's no problem smoking tires there.

In fact, if I'm making a turn from a stop it almost always spins that inside tire a bit, probably because of the fact that it's a non-posi rear end.

on the dyno stock i put down 225 rwhp 334torque

ran veryy low 14 in the quarter

but then again i dont have alittle ol 305

3fifity tpi with a tad of suspension work but right now im in the works of the intake swap.

but it was no where that quick stock when i got it. pretty much replaced everything and 20ish oil changes til there was no sludge or anything in the oil valve covers etc

Re: What you putting down with your 5.0TBI

Honestly the hardest thing to do in the engine bay was the gutting of the factory harness. It took me a week to figure it out and in all honesty it's still not as clean as I'd like it to be.I think that when I finally do an engine swap I'm going to finish it up the way I want it. Everything else for me was just "trial and error" really. I have some old pics saved on my computer that I'd like to put up in another thread as a "stages through time" kinda thing.
