What is the difrance between a 1989 ECM and a 1994 ECM?

I have been looking at how to program my own ECM chip for a little while and have been doing a lot of searching and reading and I must say this site seems to be the best. Although I Don’t own a Camaro anymore ( sorry ) I do have 2 trucks that are TBI. First one is a 1989 Chevy 1500 that came with a 350 and the second is a 1994 1500 305 extended cab.

Just a bit of info on what my situation is. The 1989 recently blew the motor so I pulled it and was going to rebuild it but came across a deal of a life time and bought the 1994. So I’m still going to build the 350 up mildly and I want to stay with the TBI but I’m going to use my 1989 as a donor truck. It would take way more money to fix it up the way I want to than the 1994 would. I had started on fixing up the motor in the 1989. Holley 670cfm TBI ( F.Y.I. the only difference between the 1989 and the 1994 is the TPS plug on the TBI ), Jet 6 pack chip, and the Edelbrock 3704 intake.

What I’m looking to do is build up the 350 from the 1989 then pull out the 305 out of the 1994 and put the 350 in.

What I’m worried about is the ECM and the chips. My question is can I use the original ECM in the 1994 and just change the chip? (I’m pretty sure I can’t use the 6 pack chip from the 1989 due to the fact that the trans is different. I called Jet and they said they won’t reprogram it for me. ) Or do I have to find a ECM for a 1994 with a 350?

Sorry If I made this post in the wrong place. Any help would be great.

should just be the transmission side of the ecm. 89 used a 700R4, 94 used a 4L60E

Do you thank I could tap into the Jet chip and reprogram it with the tranny infor from the 305? Or should I just reprogram the 305 chip to work with the 350?
