Throttle hard to push down/sticky (Manual car)
I have 1992 Rs 5 speed with a 305TBI. It has 130,000 miles. My problem is that the throttle is sticking while the car is running. The gas pedal becomes hard to push down at first but once i push it down a little it smooths out.
Its making it difficult to drive the cars correctly because once I let of the clutch the car is lurching forward. The car sat for a while before I bought it last week. I lubricated the throttle body linkage with WD-40 and worked the throttle while the car was off. I also noticed that the cruise control linkage (I'm guessing its a vacuum controlled cruise control) was not moving very smoothly. Could I have a vacuum leak? Could there be carbon on the throttle plates? I did notice that the gasket that goes from the air cleaner to throttle body is partially missing.

You deffinately could. Could have a worn out bushing on the throttle shaft. Carbon build up on the blades could cause a little stickiness. Id get the throttle body rebuilt or replaced.

Nope. Did you try disconnecting the throttle cable from the TBI move the throttle by hand feeling for binding....if not they work the cable back and forth and you could feel a binding there..
