Tune up parts

Not sure if this is the right section or not but here i go. i have a 92 bird with a stock 305 with just a open element filter as an upgrade. it has 104k miles and i believe all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor..ect are all original. i know any parts will be better than what is there now.

my question is what are the best for the 305 TBI? i was going to use ac delco plugs and accel wires, cap, rotor and coil. i was also going to change the PCV as well of course. ive done tune ups before but wanted your guys experience for what you think is better and what to avoid. i know the coil prolly isnt bad but its cheap ins and wanted to match the cap and wires. plus being yellow in color will add some pop..lol

just not sure if the extra $$ going from say motorcraft or bwd parts to accel is a big diff or not. i know i wont get hp from a tune up except for what was lost due to worn out parts. any feedback you have would be great. and i have searched but havent found anything that really helped except the plugs..which im going to stay with delcos anyways..

Re: Tune up parts

I would use AC delco plugs. Msd cap and rotor. Taylor or Msd wires (Taylor offers more wire colors). Coil I have had bad luck except for my stock AC delco one.

Re: Tune up parts

I have bin running the exact same Accel set-up as you first mentioned for over six years now with no problems.(With AC-Delco R45TS plugs) If your looking for red colored items you could go all MSD parts, they also have a reputation for quality.Just so you know my accel cap and rotor are tan in color ,the wires and coil are yellow.Take a look at this online catalog so you can get a good look at the parts you want. = http://www.summitracing.com/ call and ask them to send you there free catalog. Summit Racing is one of the best distributors in the business.I have used them many times.

Re: Tune up parts

yeah ive been looking at them. i first looked at all my local parts stores and i see that summit is either the same price or a little cheaper than the local stores. i wasnt looking for red wires in particiular just not the plain, dull black ones. i hate black on black on black motors. open the hood and blah!!

thats accel cap and rotor combo ive been looking at is the tan colored one too. i may go with msd cap, rotor, and wires and maybe coil too. just to keep all of them the same color. im also going to ditch my 2 inch round filter and thrown on a 3 inch K&N one.

once this is all done im going to remove my valve covers and give them a fresh coat of paint. the pass cover has spots where the smop tubes have rubbed the paint off. and im also removing my smog pump as well.

Re: Tune up parts

sounds good. I think the red would look great to bring out the underhood a little bit

Re: Tune up parts

quick question regarding the wires. i was looking at the red wire sets on summit and some of them have sets that are 90 degree boots while others have mulit angle and 90 degree boots and so on. which would work the best? im running stock manifolds with no plans in the near future to run headers. dont get me wrong.. i will eventually but just not right now.

Re: Tune up parts

so after much research and figuring out that stock plugs have 5 90 degree boots and 3 straight i decided to go with taylor wires (red), MSD blaster coil, MSD cap and rotor, AC Delco plugs (CR45TS) and a fram PCV valve. total with shipping is $155.89. Getting all this stuff from Summitracing too. Thanks to all who inputed and helped me to decide.

Re: Tune up parts

For a good tune up I suggest
Ac Rapidfire Spark Plugs
Msd Cap and Rotar kit
Msd Spark plug wires
Royal Purple Oil Change
K&N Oil Filter
K&N Air filter
Seafoam it

And you should have a nice running car.
Or you can also get the cheaper parts and get about the same thing
