Best intake for 350 TBI

I will be picking up a 350 and will be using TBI with it. Realistically what is the best intake manifold to get the most power for less than $350? Is it worth it to get a good carb intake and buy an adaptor or just buy an EFI intake?

Should I increase my intake budget and reduce my exhaust budget?

Thoughts?

Re: Best intake for 350 TBI

Well there's only a couple tbi intake to choose from, & depending on whats stle you have.
Traditional bolt pattern -there's the holley tbi intake.
87 up style- there's the edlebrock, holley, & the stock type.
Vortec style- they make a tbi intake w/ that bolt pattern, from what I've seen this one is pricey.
I've used the holley intakes, I like them because they come w/ brackets & other hardware to help installation.

If the engine makes under 250fwhp, I would keep the stock one and save the $.

Re: Best intake for 350 TBI

perfomer rpm w/o air gap seems to be a popular choice and you'd have to run an adapter with that.

What sort of gains do people see with one of these intakes? Which of the three types you listed gived the best gains with a full exhaust? I don't mind spending money if it will be better in the long run to do it right after I get the new engine.

What sort of pricetag do they run? Are they worth it?

Damn, that's not a bad price at all if one can find them on CL. Otherwise I believe they run $250 from Jegs if memory serves me correctly. How much would the adapters run?

What do you think about these:
JEGS Champion Series 331 <-- will need adapter
Edelbrock 3704 <-- won't need adaptor

I am not sure myself. I am getting a new engine from a local shop so I am not sure what heads they will use. If I can afford it I woukd like to get some aluminum or vortech heads if in my budget.

Sounds good but upgrade the cam while the motor is out...you don't wanna do it later when it's in the car...

Re: Best intake for 350 TBI

the jegs manifold shown is for vortec heads. so you wont be able to use that. the other manifold is the edelbrock tbi manifold and you can use that. but you said what was the best manifold for your application that is why that manifold wasntmentioned. and that manifold is being sold on here in the for sale section for 100.00 used. so thats a good price for it.

I would like to do that, but I am concerned about tuning the ECU which I have ZERO experience. Is a cam that much better with the mods to pay someone to tune it for me?

Is it worth it to get vortech heads then? Is that even possible?

Re: Best intake for 350 TBI

the vortec heads are common for people especially people that do not want to run the egr, they are a better flowing head.

Does 250hp at the crank count as "high performance"? I do not need an 11 second 1/4 mile car. 0-60 in less than 6s will cover my needs.

Buy a good dual plane intake and buy the adapter.Thats what I ran in my 91 pickup ,best bang for the buck. And put a cam in that motor.

Re: Best intake for 350 TBI

FWIW I just bought a Performer RPM manifold (for vortec heads) and DCtrumpet's 4bbl square bore to 54mm TBI adapter and think I am in it for a little over $350.
