Ok I have a vacume advance HEI distributor with HO coil stock module and Mr. Gasket recurve kit. The problem is i can't get more than 10 degrees of machancal advance out of it. I set the base timing to 10 deg and i will only get 20 deg totall. It all comes in before 2500 rpms. I have tried all of the springs, the light ones actually give me less timing because they are putting timing in at idle also the timing is eratic at idle with the light springs. I have tried flipping the cam plate over , the center plate the weights ride on. I also checked to see if it was being restricted by the slots that the pins go through and i still have a 1/4 inch left when i pull the weights out al the way. I'm all out of idea's. I'm hoping this is just a junk recurve kit . Has anyone had this problem before.

Did you make sure the wieghts are right side up ? I notice you fliped the cam deal.
I had one set were the shiney side of the wieghts went down, and the cam was shiney side up.
I'm out of ideas, aside from getting a different set. I think Accel makes a set.

yeah i'm sure the weights are on correctly because there are little plastic pads that they ride on so they can really only go one way. I'm thinkin its fubar so i'll prolly just get a different recurve kit and see what happens.

Before you go taking things back, check your vacuum advance unit. If it's not moving freely (jammed up?) it may be limiting how much advance you get. You can take it right out, then check the timing to see what you get...
Stop using the Mr. Gasket recurve kit. It's junk. I've tried them all and it's gotta be the worst. Go buy the Crane kit.
For street performance what you really want is stock weights and centerplate combined with slightly lighter springs. This is what the Crane kit is, plus a fully adjustable vacuum advance can. There's a tech article on this website about recurving the HEI for performance applications.
Thanks for your input damon, glad to hear some one else has had problems. I'm going to dig up my old weights and cam plate and use the springs with the Mr.G kit
