Electronic speedo sending unit shared with any other cars?

Well, the last piece I need to put my GTA 140mph gauge cluster in my car is the sending unit for the electronic speedo. I looked at the junk yard and i guess this is a hot item because every single thirdgen w/electronic speedo is missing the sending unit. Could I pull one from any other car? 4th gen?

1989 GMC pickup works, (for me anyway). Don't know about other years though. They do have a different reluctor on the tail shaft but the electronics are the same.

Not to sound dumb, but what is a reluctor? I have never worked on a car with an electronic speedo before. I read the tech article on swapping to elec speedo, but it doesnt say much about the VSS. Also, would I need the VSS from a car with the same gears as me to have correct speedo calibration?
