HELP ...
I really have no clue when it comes to carbs but I'll give it a shot. Sounds like the accleration enrichment (Pumpshot on the carb). I don't know much about the needles, valves, and floats on carbs but I know there is something for the Pumpshot on them...
Definitely start with the basics. One of those would be the distributor cap: make sure there are no arc tracks inside it from one plug wire terminal to another.
If all that is good, then pull the valve covers off, and check for broken rocker arms and other valve train problems.

at least u didnt have your face by a carb when your dad tells you to pour some gas down the throat of it to get it started and lean on the fender while he starts it. lil scarey and hot
Hell ¡¡¡¡¡
i started the car but i started withou the cable 1 ...then cable 2 ....cable 3
abd that was it
without one of them the car was fine ....obviusly was runnin in 5 cyl but no backfire ...
im not sure ...maybe a broken valve or rocker as RB83L69 said
what u think what can cause this ???
Im 100% sure is a valve train problem now ¡¡
Do you have a hollowed cat? cause when i bought mine the cat was hollow and i had some backfireing and when e-chack came around and a real cat was in order the back fireing stopped? just a thought
Check the valve train. If the problem is there, it should be obvious. Broken rocker, broken push rod, broken stud, nut backed off, all of those things on the exhaust; or a broken valve spring on an intake.
If it's not that, it's a head gasket.
As far as the root cause, I don't know.... you'd be a better judge of that

had the exact same problem, only it happened to me on the whitestone bridge at 1:00 am!! A rocker stud on an exhaust valve broke on my brand new AFR heads. The stud was a chinese piece of crap ( you don't get much for 1700 bucks!) I replaced them all with ARP.
i would guess #5 exhaust, its firing back thru the intake and blowing fuel out of the intake.
I took off my valve covers.....VOILA
the pushrod broke the Rocker arm little oil hole
and that was it ...i bought a new rocker and i will install it tomorrow -...i guess that will be the end of the problem
Or not ??
