Speed Limiter

89 305 tbi RS - Does it have a speed limiting chip? (device of some sort)... What is it? How can it be removed/replaced?

91 305 tbi RS - (new pistons, cams, roller rockers, headers, exhaust, 3 angled-valve job, it has a hypertech power chip, couple other modifications) Does this have a speed limiting chip? (or did the hypertech-chip replace that?) or...?

Try searches for something called a "VSS."

It's the thingy that tells the ECM how fast you are going. If you can cut it's cable, then you can go as fast as you want. Installing a switch is a good way to do this.
Look for the tech article at the first page on the site, like ede mentioned.

Carefull NTChrist. by cutting out the VSS the car will not run properly. The ecm needs this to do its calculations. Without it the car will not run properly. It will cause the tranny to shift at different points and may cause some damage in time. BY using a swithc I guess you will be alright. Not all ecm even had a limiter to beign with, I think it was the 305 and some of the 305 tpi engine too,but I may be wrong. Just my 2 cents.

I have a 5 speed, tho I'm not too sure about the original poster.

That's a good point if the guy has got an auto.

In my case, it doesn't affect anything with my TBI'd 5-speed car.

Yeap, you are right. It will work fine with a stick, auto...it will work. Just may cause some damage in the long run.
