All we have down here are KRagens, so i usually end up using pennzoil oil filters since they only really carry fram and pennzoil filters. It doesn't really matter to me what oil to use, so long as it isn't pennzoil or someother recycled product, since i change it when i'm supposed to.
AC delco, either PF35 or PF1218. Castrol GTX 10w-30 all year round. I change oil every 3000 miles never more than 100 miles off on the change (keep a log book!).

What would be interesting is if anyone has any SAE connections, and could get a hold of the test results of filters using the various tests availible.... just a thought....
you can use the napa silvers and have the same protection as the golds for cheaper. A dude cut open about 20 diff filters and 2 of them were napa's. he found that the silvers and the golds were the same.
Mobil 1 5w30, either Mobil 1, Fram X2, or K&N filter, though it's harder to find the mobil 1 filters around... i've had 3 trans am's, all 5.0 TPI, mileages from 117k-137k, 80k-142k, 123k-145k, and never had any engine problems or burned more than a quart per every 3-4 months. i routinely go 6,000 miles on the mobil 1 with a good filter. i've met some of the guys who helped develop the consumer grade mobil 1, and they're pretty much in agreement that 10,000 miles isn't too extreme, but mostly a marketing thing that they still recommend 3,000.
I USE Delco PF35, b/c i can't find PF1218 and M1 5w-30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer b/c i tend to run my engine harder in the summer and it is warmer out, i like the keep oil PSI around 50 psi.

Ive been using Pennzoil 10-30w Syn. Blend with K&N oil filter with Lucus Oil Additive. Ive been thinking of switching to mobil1 15-50. Any1 got any thoughts on the 15-50 i just know it has to give you gr8 protection. But as for weather conditions does it like gel up, or give u harder starts in the winter? If theres nothing i can really benefit from it, I will just stick with the pennzoil 10-30 syn. blend.?? Any help would be gr8.

I would use 15w-50 for the track and 10w-30 in the summer, 15w-50 is thicker then 10w-30 and most engine wear occures are start up and 10w-30 is plently thick for daily driving b/c the factory rcommended 5w-30 dino and cars go for hundreds of thousands of miles on this. and that is think dino oil not M1. see what i am saying?
But doesn't thicker oil cause a drag on the oiling system? .
I thought all of the circle track guys used 5W30 synthetic for that little extra HP they can get. I could be wrong, but I dunno. I do 98% street driving, and I just use 10W30 or 10W40 dino... changing it regularly
Why?? Because Vader said so!! I'm joking of course, kinda.

I won't tuch fram filters, the military had a ban on their use in GOV's a few years ago (the ban is no longer in effect) because they lost a bunch of diesil engines due to contamination by meatel shavings from the mechining of the filters. I use A/C declo filters and mobil 20-40 dyno oil. BTW I use heaver oil because I built my engine on the "loose" (high end of clearance on the berings less wear and less friction restance)side and I don't like using anything thinner than that

I always use Mobil-1 5-30W oil and for a filter either a K&N, Mobil1, AC-Delco or Napa Gold filter. I get the filters whichever is on sale, but never a FRAM!! I've read too much negative stuff about Frams on those sites that ripped them open.
For the filter size, I use the bigger ones for pickup truck engines. It hangs down a little lower, but never had a clearance problem. For example, I think the K&N normal filter is the 2002, and the truck filter is the 3002. IMO the bigger filter just gives you more filter material, less restriction, and higher capacity. I change the oil every 3 to 4 thousand.
I use none of the above, i do use a fram filter but i use Kendol oil, its becommign harder and harder to find but if you can get it its some of the best stuff, and if you get the GT-1 type dont be afraid when you start to pour and the oil is green, thats normal.
changing it every 15 to 1700 miles, i prefer to keep freash oil in the beast.
I was always a fan of Fram, mainly because of the radioactive orange color, until I read that oil filter review that was posted a few years ago, where the guy cut open 20 oil filters.
Ever since then, primary filter choice is AC, secondary (if all stores are out of stock) is Purolator.
Oil is Valvoline 10w30.
(Mileage is +245,000, so I guess I'm doing something right. )
Oh and I agree about all the overkill filters, like K&N's and HardDriver synthetic filters. As long as you change the oil regularly, and change the filter when you change the oil, you'll be fine... you don't need a 3 micron filter.

I agree. I always used Fram filters until I read that review from the guy who bought all those different filters and cut them open to see what was really inside. Frams were the worst with the least amount of filter material and the cardboard end caps!! I hear they used to be much better, but no longer. I live in the boondocks so my choices are limited. Everyplace around here carries Frams and Pennzoil (same thing) filters. So it's an overkill K&N or a Napa Gold usually. Nobody carries AC or I'd just use those. I'm not going to buy from the Chevy dealer either since they charge double.
You don't have any Wal-Mart stores around? I thought there was a wal-mart every 10 miles... or so it seems around here! The Wal Mart store brand filter I've used in a pinch before (champion labs filter) on my Fiero and it's been a great cheap alternative at $1.97 each every day.
A local parts store chain used to have a cut out display of a fram and a Lee Maxi (same as the Wal-mart) filter side by side and the actually charged MORE for the Fram filter!!! If you look, the Fram filter has less filtering paper in it than the wal mart store brand and costs more... I don't understand why with all the clones Champ. and Purolator make there aren't more users of them.
Mobil 1 Synthetic & K&N........just turned over 380,000 kms used it since day 1 and never had to crack open the motor. Major expense done on the engine is a waterpump.
10w30 mobil synthenic
fram extented guard filter
the filter is good for 7k miles and the oil ??
so i change it when ever i get to about 3000-5000
pretty much when ever i get a chance . so i put the best in, cauze the best will last a lil longer and it can never hurt.
Does anyone know if the AC Delco 1218 will work for my car in stead of AC's new, shorter style, PF-454? I don't want the short style, but someones said the 1218 is a truck filter but it should still work in my 350 IROC right? It is just a bigger size filter than the 454. Thanks. -89IRO
1218 is a pf35 just with an anti-drain back valve. The pf35 is a larger pf25 which is recommended for our cars. The only reason they say use a pf25 is for clearance. If you car came with an oil cooler you would probably want/need to run a 25 but if not, go with the 1218 or 35, both work great just one is a little more protection.
i just get what ever is cheapest, i normaly get that shell oil but now advance auto carrys there own like of oil so i get that, i run 10w40 in my v6 camaro, seems like in my blazer with a v6 it leaked less of hte 10w40 oil than the 10w30..sound right or not?? an the filter, right now i got a fram, before it have one with out a name, i usually get a fram cause i like the little grip thing and the orange color
The 1218 is the best way to go. There is plenty of clerance underneath. For the V6 and L4 guys looking for a longer filter, use the AC Delco PF52 filter.
Well I got my 1218 today, just waiting to get a case of oil from sam's club then I'll be set. Planning on changing it this weekend. I was amussed to see the guy at autozone try and tell me it was JUST for a truck, I just said a 350 is a 350 dude. -89IRO
Strictly AC Delco filters on all my rides for as long as I been driving. 20 years now?!
My IROC gets Mobil 1 full synthetic 15w-50. No winters, some drag racing, and usual redline action. One change per year, low miles, no problems.
RearEnd has Redline oil full synthetic.
PS my 146,000 mile S15 gets Pennzoil 5w-30. Lawn mower gets Napa gold filter and regular Mobil 1 oil.
Just in case you were wondering.

As great as Auto Zone is for prices, most of their counter guys are dumber than bricks. I brought in an Axle Vent, and asked if they had a new one. The older guy didn't even know what it was, and the ***** kids working there didn't know either. "Dealer" and "Item" are terms I hear thrown together alot in there. If you get parts there, be sure to use their e-mail system to reserve a part via the internet. Take your core with you, and you're in and out in less time and don't have to deal with the meatheads behind the counter.
The older blue on white 1218 boxes specified them for the LT-1 Camaro-Firebird. The only case I know of (from the factory) where a v8 uses a different filter is on the 1988-1995 or so 1/2 and 3/4 ton 4WD trucks. The front driveshaft gives no room for even a PF25, so GM transversely mounted a PF52 on an adapter for that application.
I can't say r i c e r without being censored?? I thought I lived in America?? I'd bet, hick, *******, metalhead or ******wagon don't get censored. Sheish... What ever happened to the 1st amendment?
Edit #2 yep, the other words weren't automatically censored... I don't get it, they (the r i c e r s) have pride in their cars too, and they give us $h*t all of the F*ckin time too, just as much as we give it to them. A fundamental right in America is the right to disagree, another is freedom of speech... I feel sooooo violated right now.
