Yes an LS1 will fit. Be ready to do a lot of research and spend a lot of money. Because you have to swap the engine and computer. But several folks have done that are on the boards. Try searching for "LS1" in titles on the Motor Swap board.

what motor does it have in it now? is it the 350? if so, i would stick with that and build that one up. I dont feel its worth the hassle to swap the ls1 if youre gonna build it up. even if its the 305, ive seen some mighty stout 305 equipped cars whoopin on 350 cars. If you are totally set on the LS1 swap, personal message fatal 88, they did it. but they did ALOT on that car putting 4th gen stuff on it.
I got 20% more Butterfinger free today. It says so on da wapper.
Well...... An LS1 would be pretty cool, but if you're building a strictly drag car I'd get/build a Gen I small block. Parts are plentiful and cheap, and something's gonna break if that's all you're gonna do.
An LS1 is a great street/strip motor, but upgrades are still new and gonna cost your left arm and leg. I hear they're stronger than an ox on steriods, but it's that one cam or set of heads that's gonna empty your wallet really fast to improve upon it, not including all the ECM program upgrades it's gonna take.
If you do go with an LS1 :hail: :hail: :hail:
You're gonna have one mean machine.
Check out SLP's website. They have the 500 hp+ LS1 motor that they will sell you for only $12,000.00. If I ever get rich and famous this is what will be between the fenders of my '91.

It's been done. I almost did it myself. I saw a stock LS1 with a B1 cam (which is a small cam for an ls1) and 3.73's (i think) run 11.90s. You can go all out with heads, cam and other bolt ons, but you'll be breaking stuff. You'll then need a beefier tranny, aftermarket torque arm and a stronger rear like a 12 bolt.

L98 is finally running! Time to break it in a few hundred miles, then go roast some tires!
IMO ... buy a 4th gen or put a carb motor in the IROC:lala:
