Well, if you also wanted to use the best synthetic oil, then the answer is AMSOIL for both.
AMSOIL has for years used a depth-type filter media rather than the standard paper. This gives their filters a rating of 10 microns absolute, and better dirt holding capacity since the particles are trapped within the filter. Flow isn't a problem. Paper filters are surface type, which means the particles are trapped when they can't pass through the holes in the paper - ratings are typically 30 microns nominal, 60 absolute, and the dirt is held on the surface.
Mobil 1 has come out with a filter line that comes close to what AMSOIL had 10 years ago. They're about the closest to AMSOIL out there right now.

K&N makes great oil filters now. They carry them here at Advanced Auto for $10. The had a 1" nut welded to the botton for easy installation and removal and they can be safety wired.
Hey guys.... The Mobil 1 and K+N filters are one in the same(cept the nut). Neither one of them makes it either, although I havent yet found out who is doing it.
Well, I just bought my K&N oil filter today and it cost me only $13 bucks!
Thanks guys!
