WHEN I WAS FIRST TOLD WHAT I HAD FOR A CAR I THOUGHT THE GFM GUY'S WAS NUT'S.
I SAY'S THE GTA AND THE FORMULA ARE 2 DIFFERENT CAR'S. THEY REPLYED "THIS IS A SPECAIL EDTION CAR"
OH REALLY I SAID HE GOES " YEAH WE COMBINED THE GTA AND THE FORMULA AND MADE ONE KICK *** CAR"
WE PUT FORMULAGTA ALONG THE DOOR'S AND PUT THE NESTAILGA EDITION ON THE FENDER'S. WE MADE 5 FOR 91 AND 5 FOR 92. WE TOOK ALL OUR OPTION'S AND BUT THEM ON THERE AS WELL AS MOST OF THE AFTER MARKET PARTS LIKE THE RAM AIR HOOD'S, DUAL SWAY BARS , 295/50D15 TIRES ON THE BACK AND 245/60D15 ON THE FRONT. WE LOWERED THEMD AN INCH.LEATHER INTERIOR.ONLY 2 PAINT OPTIONS. BLACK AND GOLD AND RED AND SILVER.AVGER 1/4MILE WAS 13.8@107MPH FOR THE 6.6 DUAL TBI INJECTED WITH 4.11 GEARS. AND 14.3 FOR THE 350HO 2BBL TBI INJECTED WITH 3.73 GEARS. SO THEY WHERE LOW 14 HIGH 13 CARS WITCH AIN'T ALL THAT BAD FOR A BUY IT OFF THE SHOW ROOM FLOOR CAR IN MY OPION.THESE CARS REMIND ME OF AMC'S HURST S/S AMX'S THEY REALLY DO. I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DIDN'T JUST RUN A 4BBL THROTTLE BODY ON THE 6.6 IN STEAD OF 2-2BBL THROTTL BODY'S.
BUT I GUESS IT DOSE LOOK MORE RACY UNDER THE HOOD WITH 2 TBI'S SITING THERE.
I DO HAVE A 69 HURST S/S AMX # 02 OUT 53 BUILT.
WHAT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW IS WHAT WAS THE HORES POWER AND TORQUE RATING'S OF THE 5.7,350HO 2BBL TBIAND THE 6.6,400 DUAL 2BBL TBI THAT THEY PUT IN THESE CARS

Never heard of any such thing, but that certainly doesn't mean that it couldn't exist.

Sounds like a typical dealer send-out coversion type of thing, not a factory car at all. I doubt Pontiac could be of much help since this would have happened after they left the factory. It's also not consistent with Pontiac's branding; "Formula" = stripped-down performance, "GTA" = maxed-out with every possible option.

Sucks that they downgraded the wheels from 16s to 15s.

There was no 400 made within about 10 years of 91, so who knows what they might have used. There was no "HO 350 TBI" either; the only 350 TBI available from GM was the L05, that went in trucks and Caprice grandma-type cars, which was something like 210 HP and 340 ft-lbs.

Considering that the normal stock TPI 350 would have been something like 230 HP, that would be a downgrade too.

The stock 305 or 350 or 454 TBIs are all 2-barrel. That doesn't say "2 TBIs", it says "2-barrel TBI". It would look just like the L03 as far as looks goes.

But who knows, if some dealer or conversion house was doing this, they could have got a motor from anywhere and it could be almost anything.

All in all, it doesn't sound like something I would have paid extra for.

Maybe we can tone it down just a bit? I say we bring it down just a notch. And RB83L69 has a point. I dont think its something i would pay extra for. But hey this just means ur more original in your own... special way!

hmm yeah but when it comes to slow and HEAVY i'd havta say 2nd gens really take the cake on those 2 options.. also a formula gta makes no senses considering they are basically the same car except the formula was the options delete car and the gta was the heavy all options car.. the only options you could really put on a gta from a formula would be some stickers.. hehe

omg and please dont even say somethin made my gm reminds you of an amc! i mean **** most of the parts on amcs consisted of various parts bought off other manufactures in the first place as far as the drivetrain was concerned.. sounds like someone took a gta sold the wheels off it and bought some stickers with the money or somethin.. or took a firebird put a truck engine in it and made a bastard car out of various parts hehe

FormulaGTA? Doesn't even make sense as others have said the Formula is just a stripped down Trans Am. I don't recall any ram air option in 91 either. The fact that only five were produced each year sounds more like what some dealer might be doing in his garage not a production car or related to Gm necasarily. I could build five cars any way I wanted using an available platform and sell them. Doesn't make them a factory vehicle anymore however. It sounds more like a nightmare trying to get matching parts for the homolagation your driving. Got any pictures?

I think he may be suffering from hit in the head syndrome where reality is distorted just a bit. While my 87 wasn't the fastest car on the planet it would run circle around my 81Z until I did the motor in it.Now my 70 RS is a different story, but then again thats like comparing apples too oranges

WHO EVER BUILT IT DID AN AWSOME JOB OF DETAILING , CAUSE THE HOOD PLAQUE SAY 6.6L HAS THE VACUMME DIEGRAM WITH 2 TBI'S THE ENGINE'S CAST NUMBERS COME BACK AS A 6.6LV-8.
IT HAS 2 TBI UNIT'S ON THE ENGINE THE DOOR JAM PLAQUE HAS FRONT TIRES AS BEING 245/60R15'S AND REAR TIRE'S AS 295/50R15'S. IT HAS THAT DAMN 4TH GEN T/A RAM AIR STYLE HOOD ON IT IT HAS DUAL SWAY BAR'S. IT HAS A 4.11 POSI. AND SPEEDO IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY. ALL THE EFI WIRING LOOK'S ALL FACTORY NO COBBLES OR SPLICES. IT'S GOT FORMULAGTA WRITTEN DOWN EACH DOOR.THE HOOD IS STAMP 6/91 WITCH IT MATCHES THE CAR DOOR FRAME OF 6/91. ???????????????????
IS THIS SOME DEALER MODIFYED CAR SOME ******* CONCOCKTION OR WHAT. IT HAS A CB RADIO MOUNTED ON DASH K-40 WHIP IN ROOF. HAS T-TOP'S LEATHER INT. 189,546MILES ON IT. IT WAS BOUGHT AT DAGGENHART AUTO SALE'S.
NOW ON THE AMC'S CASE THEY TOOK 53 BASE MODLE AMX'S OFF THELINE IN NUMBER ORDER AND SHIPPED THEM TO HURST TO BE MODIFIED. AND FROM THERE THEY WHERE REVINED.
IS IT POSSABLE GM COULD OF DID THE SAME THING??????????
WHO THE BLANK KNOW'S .???????????????/

Lose the caps lock so we can read this. It's really tough.

Show us some pics of this. Maybe we can tell who built it. Also, post the first 10 digits of the VIN, not necessarily the whole thing; maybe there's a clue in there somewhere.

certainly nothing gm would have been involved in and nothing any smart dealer would have done since there is a rather large emissions issue to deal with and it sounds as if neither would pass. btw, to most people, they have a special edition.

p.s. get rid of the damn caps....

gm did do the same thing and dealt with hurst on modifying some cars.. just not 3rd gen f-bodys.. what your describing sounds more along the lines of something someone modified.. gm did not produce any vehicles like that. does sound like its very well done though, would love to see some pics

Show us a pic of the RPO label from the console. If you dont have it or a window sticker, then it most likely is a scam.

This definatly sounds like something someone concocted in there garage. If it was factory or even after factory special homologation how would they have picked up the 4th Gen hood before they were made, also the 6.6L harkens back to the Smokey and the Bandit TA's badging and motor. The wheel size is interesting fat wheels on small rims rears being way larger, and a CB radio screams ******* all the way! The VIN would clear up how this car came out of the factory what happened after that could have been a thousand things.

HAAAA - HAAA!

LMF'nAO!

Don Miller?! You believe those people? They'd rather sell you a Dodge Stratus or Box of Uncle Ben's...

Rule Number One - 99 44/100% of car salespersons have nearly no clue about what they are selling.

Rule Number Two - If the salesperson trys to convince you that she knows anything whatsoever about anything automotive (other than financing, cup holders, and color options), see Rule Number One....

Next, niether the GTA nor the Formy weere what most of us would classify as "KICK ***" vehicles. The only thing a GTA had going for it was more weight. A Firehawk or TTA I might believe, but that label doesn't really fit a GTA or Formula.

The TBI system certainly doesn't come up ofter when discussing performance - at least not a single TBI220.

Chevy hasn't cast a 400 block for production since about 1974. Pontiac hasn't cast a 400 block since Christ was a baby. Either someone fit an early '80s Poncho 400 in a later car and CFI system on a dual 2BBL intake, or somethins awry.

How about giving us the block casting number? Underhood photos? VIN (minus the last six digits for your security)?

Next time I run to Essen Haus I'll have to look you up...

I can never stay away, even when....

Ok, there was ONE black GTA that had a 6.6 engine installed in it. It was featured in some car rag, IIRC, in the mid 90's. It may have even had dual TBI's on it, but I can't say for sure. It was black, had the giant hood firechicken on it (in gold of course), but no gay stickers all over the car. May have had one of the stretched Hurst wings on it as well. My memory is not too good at retaining filler out of car rags. If this is the car you are looking at... well I doubt it, the customs are usually sold person to person, not to a dealer, and a featured, especially like that one, most likely had a waiting list... but if it is, take some pics and post and if a good deal and you like it buy it. Why ask us?

BTW PLEASE read :
http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...ighlight=rules

BTW - Jeff, email or call my ***, I lost my entire address book and you are no longer at the number I had. (Which if I recall you told me but...)

Vader has it dead one...after all, who but the dealer would:

1. Tell you that it is a combo of a Formula and a GTA.

2. Put a TBI 400 in there

3. 295/60/15? What did these guys dig the stinkbug stance?

4. DUAL sway bars? What like two front ones?

I hear the dueling banjos in the distance...

It's a fake, this guy's a troll, or both.

GM would never have wasted their time with 15" rims on a high end performance model in 91 when they'd been using 16s or better since 85. That detail alone is so out there as to prove it's a homemade contraption.

Not everyone "lives" on TGO, and maybe he's out getting photos and/or documentation. Let's give it a while. At the very least, it would be interesting to see how the car was done. The factory did some very odd things at times, but this one certainly sounds "home grown".
