Well here is my question - I have an 88 base bird sitting at my parents house due to a bad rod knock. The car needs a new motor and I am working on that but right now all I need to do is get it outta my parents back yard to where I am living now some 20 mi or so away.

What i need to know is if there is something I can pour in to the oil to quite the knock enough that I can drive it here. Can't you put gear lube or something in there to quite a knock?

Never heard of such an additive, that would actually work. Personally, if I planned on saving the block (if you're sure it's a rod knock), I would have it flatbeded or towed. Then you don't run the risk of damaging the motor any further. That's if you planned on keeping it.

You can do stuff like that, but 20 miles worth.... I kind of doubt it.

Why don't you rent one of those 2-wheel car-towing things, and drag it to where it needs to go??

I work at the Waffle House on Kings Millsand live off of 42 in between 741 adn mason montgomery.

Right now I am driving a 90 lumina euro with a smashed front and some kind of ticking noise . Both birds are dead - I have a red 87 formula with a blown tranny and the base model I was talking about.

As far as a car carrier goes I might borrow my dad's Bronco and tow it. Too bad it would be a FORD towing a gm

I have heard of two things that can lessen the knock. One is Marvel Mystery oil and the other is Lucas oil additive. I have never used these myself but other say it works.

Lucas oil additive, remove the plug wire from that cylinder, (and if you want it to run smooth, the opposite one in the firing order) It will run like crap, but it should last 20 miles, and stay off the interstate!
