Vapor lock?

I'm still having problems with my car's fuel system
(click khere and here for more info).

Everyone is saying that it sounds like vapor lock is the problem. But I was under the impression that fuel injected cars with in-tank fuel pumps were virtually immune to vapor lock, due to the fact that the constant pressure would prevent the gas from boiling. However, I've read that if there is a pressure leak somewhere (bad injector, worn out pump or whatever) then on hot days or when the car is heated up vapor lock is possible. I'm leaning toward this because my car only has problems after it's been running for an hour + and it's good and hot.

I had my car checked out by a mechanic. He tested the fuel pressure and said it's fine, though. He also replaced the fuel filter claiming that was the problem. But I've still got the problem. So I'm trying to troubleshoot this myself.

Please offer insight if you can. Thanks!!

Re: Vapor lock?

Sounds like mine, 350 '89 TPI, done it for 3 summers now. I do believe I have a leaking injector. Now fuel pressure is intermittent. My mechanic wants to replace Fuel Pump. I was wondering if I was flooding it, Car floods easy during summer.

Re: Vapor lock?

In the days of carburetted dominance we used what was called a cool can. A section of the fuel line was coiled inside a container and the container was filled with ice (old school style; coffee can, new school style "Moroso Cool Can". It cooled the fuel and prevented vapor lock. another old trick was to clip several of mom's wooden clothes pins to the fuel line. this would sink the heat from the fuel line.
