Relieving fuel line pressure

Ok, I have a GM shop manual telling me to pull the FP fuses and run the engine till it runs outa gas (how long does this take?)

and the Chiltons says attach a fuel pressure release valve to the end of the fuel rail.

I have 2 fuses that look like they might be for the fuel pump, I ran it for a couple mins with the fuses out and it still ran...

I don't have that fuel pressure release valve.

ideas?

My manual said to do the same thing if I remember correctly but my FP isn't fused under the dash....but all you have to do is unscrew the gas cap and it should relieve the pressure.

Well I did what it said to do... pulled the fuses.. probably the wrong ones...

Undid the pressure release cap on the fuel rail

undid the return line hose and still had gas all over the place...

so I used the gold ole thumb method...
which was a pain when I had to take the old o-rings off and put the new ones on, but it wasn't too bad.

fuel pump fuse in in a black weather pak box on the inner fender near the battery with a single 12 ga wire going in and another 12 ga wire back out.
