Iwas just working on my next motor for my 84 Z28. I dropped the crank in the motor with new bearings and added EOS just like I have done tons of times. I torqued down the rear cap, no problem crank spins fine. I torqued down the front cap, no problem crank spins fine. I torque down the third cap, still good.
I torque down the fouth cap, problems won't spin with a prybar.
I untorqued the fourth cap and torqued the second cap, just as stiff. So I get the brilliant idea, switch the two and it works crank spins fine, but I still think there's a problem here. Any suggestions?
The proof is in the results.... if you put in all 5 and the crank spins, and you know for certain that all the caps came out of that block, then it's right.

Sounds like time for an Align-Bore. that'll center all the caps on the same centerline, eliminating any question of it being wrong. Initially, did u put the caps back on in the same location you took them out of? if you move them around, that could change clearances, making the rank hard to spin, or even bind.
What really gets me is that I should have caught all of this when I miked everything in the beginning. Everything checked out fine until I tried spinning it. I made a few dumb mistakes tearing this thing down, I didn't number the mains before I took the bolts out (My stamping dies were at work, alot of heavyline that week)
I also forgot to put the pin in the engine stand to prevent it from rotating, hence the last bolt I broke loose flipped the engine over and dropped the caps on the floor. I spent alot of money on this crank. NOTHING can go wrong, I guess I will measure everything again or maybe align-bore it to be sure.
well, it might still mic out correct and still be a little off of the correct centerline. I just put a 4340 crank in mine, i'd be damned if i didn't get it align-bored (or at least align-honed) before i put in my $750 crank. Worth the $150 in my opinion.
