NOT GOOD I THINK MY BALANCER IS SCREWED

I was under my car today looking for an antifreeze leek and found something I thought was much worse,I had the car running so their was pressure and noticed the balancer looked like it was wobbling.Could this be caused from the first owner installing pulleys and not torking them properly?what is a good replacement street/strip balancer without spending a mint?is this fairly common?I never saw it before

Could be that he jacked the motor up at one time by using the harmonic balancer .. No, I would not say that its common either. In fact, its not good at all if the balacer is wobbling because it will cause premature bearing wear. I would check the pully first to make sure its not bent and then take a look at the damper. Does it look like the original? If so then its probably time for a replacement anyways, the old rubber torsional dampers will develop stress cracks in the rubber and this might be the wobble you are observing. I have a streetdampr (less expensive version of the fluidampr, just not SFI approved and who cares) and it was only 160$ for internal balance and I think the external is 210$. Hope this helps a little.

Yup, not good at all (if it is the balancer and not the pulley itself). If you want inexpensive, pick up a GM Performance Parts 6-3/4" diameter damper (cost -$90 from PAW) for internally balanced SBC engines. I have one and it is t!ts.

I've got a used one I'll sell ya real cheap. It's in my garage sitting there doing nothing and it is good. Only reason it got replaced was for another problem I was troubleshooting. It's a stock one off an L98 (350)
